Review: Adventureland

Adventureland
Chances are, you had a crap job when you were younger. One where you resented every second you had to stack a shelf or greet a customer, but one where you had good friends, bad relationships and as many laughs as you had woes. Looking back now, it probably seems like a wonderfully complicated time. Welcome to Adventureland.

Watching this now. Eisenberg is mesmerising as always, Stewart is surprisingly likeable, and Reynolds would still be charming when he's beating the shit out of a baby.

Not too bad really. For a film set in the 80's it surprised me by how honest and reserved it is. No crazy hijinks or bullshit adventures here, just a sweet story about kids who might be intelligent or educated but don't know fuck all else.
I thought Ryan Reynolds character summed it all up pretty well, they could have made him a real prick, just for the hell of having a villain but instead he's just a nice guy trapped in a crappy job and marriage, looking to get by.

I found this film made me rather frustrated. It was all a bit too predictable. American indies are becoming so more and more. The 80's setting thankfully saves us from too much of a an American Indie Soudtrack (ala JUNO).

But hats of to Hader. He's becoming a bit of a scene stealing!

Reynolds gets a free pass in anything. The roguish swine.

I'll see this soon enough, still really like Eisenberg from Roger Dodger - one of the most underrated films ever, by the way. It's like Tom Cruise's "Respect the cock!" speech over a whole movie.

I'm looking forward to Zombieland more, which stars the same bloody kid.
