Fantastic film in every way and a good ant-war, anti-American war machine movie. If there is a God maybe this is his way (by inspiring talented people) of telling us we have lost our way in this world.
If anything, the plot and character issues of Avatar are more a throwback to 90s action movies. Films have evolved since then so that now audiences expect complex plots, twists and characters with moral dilemmas and inner demons. Just because Avatar harks back to a simpler era of blockbuster movies, doesn't mean that it's lame - it's a brilliant fun film that just happens to look incredible.
Ali, your review said interest would be more as a tech demo than the characters. I'm glad Avatar is a hit, gives sci-fi a couple
of years breathing space, just holds no interest
for me and I expect more from Cameron than shiny spacemen.
The article was about the money Avatar has made, and it's worthy of an article. A billion in 17 days has never happened!
If you want a in depth analysis of the narrative, read a review, you'll find most are very positive.
And Ali, congrats on sticking with Avatar through thick and thin, there's lots to enjoy at the moment.
It's great to see a movie with so much time, effort, money and dedication put into it being rewarded att he box office. Awesome stuff.
Nope. Review says the plot is nothing special and it has a few bits of dodgy dialogue - par for the course for James Cameron and action movies in general.
Anyway, this story didn't mention Avatar's quality once, it was just commenting on how much money it's made. The fact that I happened to love it has nothing to do with it... well, other than the fact I posted the story at all.
Don't understand the backlash really. The worst you could say about it is that it's a bit cliched in places. Fair enough if you don't like it, but seems like a hard film to hate. I'm guilty of getting excited about movies like this I guess, but I don't think anyone can really say that it's success isn't a good thing for cinema in general.
Take Cameron's balls outta ya mouth Ali. Even your review says it has zero plot or characters, which is pretty
important in what we deem a "good" film. Going by £ made, James Blunt made the best album of the 1990s.
And so after the "It's so pretty it has to be brilliant" comes the "It's made so much money it has to be brilliant". You'll never go wrong appealing to the lowest common denominator and a polished money making turd is still a turd, just like Titanic was.
