Review: Brave
Posted by Ali at 07:00 on 19 Jun 2012 Reviews A-Z
I'd love to be able to say with complete authority that Brave is a colossal return to form for Pixar, but I can't, because... well, frankly, I didn't much feel like seeing Cars 2. Though I can't comment on the specifics, Pixar's last movie felt so cynically made, so driven by the wrong factors, so unlike them. What I am qualified to comment on, however, is Brave and how it's seemingly the complete antithesis of Cars 2: lovingly crafted for all the right reasons and built from the ground up around story and character, not market share or brand recognition. Brave strives above all else to make an emotional connection, and boy does it connect: a hugely atmospheric fairytale of old, it's Pixar's most mature movie to date.

Disappointing. Disneys dirty, gutless fingers are all over this one, I can barely believe its a Pixar film given how sparse & without thematic depth it is.
Its still a 7/10 & had it been a Disney film it'd be the best thing theyd done in nearly 20 years but for Pixar its their 2nd disappointing film in a row.

Excluding me. I'm already black sheep. And I'm mental. Latter explaining former. Or the other way round.
Ali is finding more and more ways to show he is superior - Apple stuff, kid (in this very order). A mean person would say it's a way to compensate complexes, but I wouldn't even dare to think such things. And where are my pills?

If the posters are anything to go by, I am going to like this movie. And congratulations on the baby coming up, which I feel I need to say because I'm a nice person and all that.

Yep I've heard mixed reviews too, which I've been putting down to non-UK reviewers not getting it.
It's not out til August 17th?! Makes sense I suppose, it'd get killed against TDKR.

So glad to read this - most of the reviews I've seen have been pretty mixed, for some reason... Obviously I'm going to go and see it, because I've seen every Pixar film and loved most of them (I'm looking at you, Cars franchise). And judging by the trailers and everything for Brave, it doesn't look like it would be anywhere near as bad as Cars 2. What was the short like, by the way? La Luna? Apparently it's amazing.
