Review: Charlie And The Chocolate Factory

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
You won't have to hunt long and hard to find a bigger Tim Burton fan than me. The man's had his moments, yes, but when I look at his goofy face, his intentionally wacky haircut and those unavoidable goth overtones, a switch inside me just flips to 'not bothered' (it's like, Tim, you already pulled that pasty-faced Bonham-Carter...

I want to see this film, but I just haven\'t gotten around to it yet. High ticket prices combined with obnoxious commercials and even more obnoxious patrons (seriously folks, that message before the movie telling people to shut the hell up pertains to you as well...you are not exempt!) has just started to sour me on the whole theatre going experience. I may get around to seeing this when it hits the local budget cinema, or just wait until it hits DVD in a couple of months. Having said all that, I\'m a huge Burton fan and I think this one looks like it could be a lot of fun.

I had a Nestle \'Fudgemallow Delight\' the other day.

I don\'t remember much from the book apart from the description of this and the reality was so, so bad. Anyway, I haven\'t seen it and the original had lots of stupid singing. I\'d do Bonham-Carter.

I prefer the Family Guy one where the Chumba Wumbas sing about Joes need for a wheelchair. Hysterical.

I have no strong feelings either way about this film. It may just be the most neutral film I\'ve ever yet to see.

I\'d rather watch that Futurama episode again:
# Grunka lunka dunkity doo
We\'ve got a friendly warning for you
Grunka lunka dunkity daces
The secrets of Slurm\'s on a need to know basis
Asking questions in school is a great way to learn
If you try that stuff here you might get your legs broke
We once found a dead guy face down in the Slurm
It could easily happen again to you folks

So keep your head down and keep your mouth shut
Grunka lunka lunka dunkity dot! #

Oh, and I\'d argue that the *only* good Planet Of The Apes movie is the first. IMHO the rest suck balls.

To be honest, I think I\'d have to re-read the book to see just how much of a dark edge it has. I\'ve a feeling my memories of it are distorted by the Wilder movie.

The Twits, yes, and to a far far greater extent Georges marvelous medicine are cruel and nasty books, but I always remember Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator being far darker than CATCF.

Might be totally wrong though.
