Cinemassholes #8: The Mattress Man from Punch-Drunk Love
Cinemassholes? #8? What? Bear with me - I haven't updated this series since 2005, but I couldn't think of a more perfect place to share with you my love of The Mattress Man from Punch-Drunk Love. Previous cinemassholes included Brodie Bruce, Sean Bateman and The (Now Dead) Old Lady In Titanic. Bitch. You're up to speed. Let's go...

I've watched Punchdrunk again this morning thanks to being reminded.
What a beautiful, odd, quiet film.
This scene is one of my favs, everything from the final unleashing at his sister to the phone-booth lighting up *exactly* in time with a bell on the soundtrack.

I love Punchdrunk Love more than I can describe.
Paul Thomas Anderson is possibly the one director who has never put a foot wrong & I'll watch anything he makes.
Magnolia is,for personal reasons, my favourite.

Yes it's overblown, yes it's 7hrs long and yes the singing bit makes little sense.
But give me that over Tarantino anytime.

The original advert is truly a genius work of unspeakable genius. There are some amazing homemade public access channel adverts out there - when I'm on a device that can copy and paste properly I'll stick some in here...

When I saw the title, I was hoping the advert would be in here.
