Review: Clash Of The Titans

Clash Of The Titans
The original Clash Of The Titans is one of those movies that many people remember fondly from their childhood and usually this is reason enough to swear off any kind of remake. This time, however, all eyes seem to be on how modern-day special effects can improve upon Ray Harryhausen's impressive (but, let's be honest, dated) efforts. Well, come out of retirement, Ray - your stop motion techniques are still preferable to soulless CGI and needless 3D.

Saw it in 2D, it was OK, felt a bit rushed in places. The Bubo scene was like "Remember the original film? Look, see, we remember it! REMEMBER THE ORIGINAL, DAMMIT!" as he waved the prop in our faces (no doubt in the 3D version the owl came right out, just in case you'd forgotten about the original)

And yeah, the ending was a bit surreal, but the only time in the entire film that I actually bought Liam Neeson's acting (he did a good villain in Batman Begins but here? No thanks)

Okay, so I went to see this. Cinema didn't have a 2D showing, only 3D, so I gritted my teeth and paid an extra fiver. At least you can keep the glasses now.

Not that the 3D made any difference. It's barely 3D at all. In fact, because the glasses made a dark film darker, I watched half the movie with the glasses off and didn't notice a thing. Really, really awful implementation of the technology, and not a movie that benefited from 3D at all. Shameful.

And the film was pretty awful. None of it made any sense. Zeus is evil but keeps showing up to help Perseus? The Stygian witches tell him he'll die but nothing happens? Danny Huston literally says about six words as Poseidon.

This article Link opens in new window on CHUD does go some way to explaining many of the inconsistencies. The most annoying bit was *Perseus and Zeus having a good old chuckle at the end, despite the fact that he raped his mother. Ha ha ha!*

A bit shit, to be honest. Didn't bother with 3D.

I can't criticise the 3D conversion enough. The demonic harpies were just a blur, Pegasus looked like he had too many legs and sometimes the actors looked as though they had 2 heads - one just sitting underneath the other on screen.

It was just a joke and completely ruined an already hit-and-miss film for me.

Pirates of The Carribean stole the kraken's thunder I'm afraid.

Zero interest in this, get a distinct The Mummy Strikes Back vibe from the trailers.

There's no way I'm paying extra money to watch this in 3D. It's the most blatant bit of movie studio thievery I think I've ever seen.

I'll probably go and see this in 2D, grumble a bit and then forget it ever existed.
