Review: Dark Shadows

Time to break out the Tim Burton checklist then. Comedy-horror with supernatural elements? Check. Johnny Depp? Obvs. Score by Danny Elfman? Yuh-huh. Helena Bonham Carter? Of course. Pop culture retread? Yes. The time has long passed when one of Hollywood's most original directors has become a parody of himself. And as his once twisted gothic visuals have now given way to colourful cartoonish CGI, you have to ask "Damn - why didn't you make a vampire movie 15 years ago?"

Good review, saw this last night and came out with same thoughts. This story is very similar to Corpse Bride, makes me think that Burton daydreams about Lisa Marie coming after him with either a kitchen knife or a nasty voodoo curse. There is definitely a feeling of missed opportunities to this film with strange shock choices in tone - sex, immorality and vampirism - still glad I saw it but not a classic like Ed Wood. What was Johnny Lee Miller doing? Looking for his part in the scenery? You can get in the taxi now mate, you been in enough scenes. Weird.
