Review: Hancock

Hancock
Holy shit, Batman! An original superhero story! No stigma attached; no fanboy preconceptions; no bitching about bad casting; no in-built audience to pander to. Just an honest to Zod, original idea for a film about a superhero that's not ripped from the pages of a comic or a TV show or a website or a painting or a dirty limerick....

Rather enjoyed this (after finally getting to see it).

Was enjoyable enough, you know exactly what you're getting with a summer Will Smith movie and he is, without question, the most charismatic A-list star working by far.
A bit "Awwww" towards the end, but I expected nothing less.

Loved the traditional "extra" scene, that made it for me.
"Hey Handjob, you gonna help in that tight-ass Wolverine suit"

Oh... I said that twice

I've got to say I quite liked the change in the story direction. It's a bit of a messy transition and the start is more amusing and entertaining. I suppose they could have double the first half to make a full film but that's what I was expecting so the change wasn't bad. It wasn't bad.

A little bad taste, maybe. But the character's already been established as a drunken, misanthropic asshole by that point, so it's not as if it's a clean-cut hero saying it to be cool.

I watched a clip where Hancock called various comic-book characters "Homo" and "Norwegian Homo". I wonder if, faced with a Black Panther or Nick Fury comic, the film would get away with "Coon" or "Jigaboo"?
Extremely distasteful scene that's turned me off from this film.

To be fair, I have never seen Greatest American Hero, and what parts of Supes III plot were the same, other than at one point Sman gets pissed?

I've seen Superman III but had to erase it from my memory because it smokes so much pole. And it's hardly the same plot.

I enjoyed the first half of this film. It went to shit after the big reveal(which you see coming from a mile away). I must take issue with the so called originality. Have none of you seen Superman 3? Or the old TV show Greatest American Hero?

I liked the first 45 mins, but I guessed the twist - so I ruined it for myself really. I just lost interest towards the end, but have nothing but praise to heap on Will Smith, he was brilliant!
Completely agree that it deserves stars for being original.

The review is spot-on. Enjoyable, not particularly suitable for younger kids and maybe lacking a classic villain but there wasnt room to fit that in and it can come later, . The backstory felt like classic comic-book stuff.

I'm going to see this on Friday, this review has left me with a stronger feeling that I'm not going to be disappointed.

I've been meaning to see this. A less-than-super superhero is a great idea, especially when these type of movies are all over the place at the moment.

The film starts at 10.30am, so that'd be perfect.

Another one I'm looking forward to.

So, what time are you picking me up for Wall-E?

Can't believe the dodgy reviews this has been getting. It's obviously got a few problems - last third is a bit iffy - but the rest of it is ace. It's being slated overseas. People have been writing it off as another 'Will Smith saves the unvierse' thing, and it's not really like that at all. I was pleasantly surprised at how funny it was.
