Review: Hereafter

Hereafter
Hereafter opens with a tsunami. Despite some occasionally shaky CG effects (correction: occasionally shaky Oscar-nominated CG effects), it's a powerful, harrowing scene, particularly in light of the recent worldwide floods. It's also quite apt, as the following two hours of Hereafter can only be described as a tsunami of boredom - you'll be helpless as waves of indifference crash down on you and you're overcome by a strong torrent of sludgy dialogue. Before long, the afterlife starts to sound pretty damn appealing.

Generally this film seems to have had mediocre reviews - I wonder why?

OK, I did find it lacked focus/punch/not sure what, but at least it's going in the right direction and you've got to give that a plus.

I had 2 OB (not ND) experiences over 20 years ago that profoundly affected my life (Hey! I am NOT this body!!)

More recently in the last 2 yrs I've had 2 NDE that just confirm that the essence of this film is right on. Death is as wonderful, as natural, as birth. It goes on. And on.

I admire Clint for going out of the box on this, even if he's going out on a limb. Ian spr888@gmail.com Relevant, non abusive emails welcome.

Damo is everywhere at the moment. May not be a good thing.

What language is that? Iranian?

It is truly awful, was excited about seeing it but just a pointless story about nothing and a waste of Damon's talents.
Im bored just thinking of it.
Oh and yes that second caption is marvellous!

Is the whole movie some kind of a masturbation struggle metaphor?

Like, you know, "it's a curse, not a gift" or "I don't do this any more".

Yeah, fair point. My problem was that he keeps on going "I don't do this any more" but he does it, like, three times in the movie. And he only turned down the black woman. Racist.

Massive swing and a miss for me.

The main problem I had with this, besides the unbearable tedium, is that Maaatt Daaaamon's storyline rendered the other two pointless. As French Lady and Annoying Twin spend their time trying to find proof of an afterlife, here's Maaatt Daaamon just walking around talking to it!

And at no point did anyone question his giftcurse. So, psychics definitely ARE real and they can talk to the dead all the time, ricght Clint? Balls.

BTW - that second caption cracked me up.
