Review: Hostel

Hostel
Eli Roth's first offering since Cabin Fever follows the latest trend in horror to replace fear and jumps with sadism and brutality, to eschew creeping menace and tension for dismemberment and sex. But, much like its central characters, Hostel is low on style, wit and grace and instead serves up a platter of tits, blood and guts...

Oh, and can you make the corner thing just show pictures of Scarlett Johanssen? Thanks.

Just watched this and thought it was pretty...ok. How many horror films do you see where the victim actually shows some ruthlessness? Sure it was gore for the sake of gore, but the torturers getting their comeupance is unusual in modern horror - they always seem to end on downers for the sake of ending on downers.

I thought it was hilarious. Biggest problem with it for me is the first half hour before they get to the hostel as fuck all happens, and I agree that the characters are one dimensional and I didn\'t care for them at all. But I came out of the cinema with a smile on my face.
There were several moments that made me laugh out loud - Edward Saladhands, the kids at the end with their gum and just before that the two girls and the car.
There were weak moments, like the seemingly thrown in to explain later actions scene where one chap explains to the other how he once saw a girl drown.

So anyway, my opinion, it\'s harmless fun, made me chuckle and I\'d rather see this than another remake of a Japanese horror featuring scary looking girl. Or Scary Movie 4.

The guy had high blood pressure, apparently. Only upon being removed from the cinema by paramedics did he realise \"maybe I shouldn\'t have gone to see a film where people get their shit cut off\"

Feint? At what?
Stupid film for stupid people. I liked Cabin Fever though, and Roth is making Hostel 2. Because there are just so many unanswered questions to this film, right?

All I see are pictures of topless men, and men with bondage gags in their mouths.

Wasn\'t sure when I read this review (thought it might be a typical Goaty rant) but I saw this tonight and wholeheartedly agree. We had a guy faint at a showing last night which was a good sign, and many staff members told me they\'d considered walking out, but they must be a bunch of fucking pussies - apart from the scene with the girl near the end, it was homogenised horror that wouldn\'t bat a kitten\'s eyelid. You can find better porn and gore on the internet, which I highly recommend.

Still, fit girls though.
