Review: Meet Dave

Meet Dave
As sickening as it may sound, Eddie Murphy is officially the most successful movie star ever. With almost $3.5bn of box-office bounty to his name, Murphy tops cinema's all-time biggest earners league. How? A steady mixture of his raucous '80s output, no-holds barred stand-up routines and family friendly films of the '90s and bey...

Why do previously talented standups/comedians end up making shit films for kids? Murphy's gone the same way as Steve Martin. Martin used to be brilliant, especially with Carl Reiner at the helm. But it's like they stop giving a toss and make stupid films for paychecks.
Even Ice Cube, the "original gangster" is doing these kinds of films. This is a guy who wrote "The Predator" album for godsakes.

Why does this happen?

He's the epitome of a movie machine: just churning them out, doesn't give a shit what they're like, won't even promote them. Just pay cheques. Like I said, what a butthole.

Plus I liked this film better when it was called The Numbskulls and was in the Beano.

That's right, he said he had commitments on another film. The other film being "A Thousand Words", directed by Brian Robbins...who also directed...Meet Dave, and was at the premiere!

Yeah. What a butthole. Not doing himself any favours, is he?

Make Beverly Hills Cop 14, do it as an 18, be a far, drunken, sweary old cop and start making semi-racist jokes about your cracker boy partners. And have Judge Reinhold in it. Then we'll talk.

Isn't this the one where he decided that he didn't want to show up at the premier? An hour before it started?

Speaks volumes.

I weep for Eddie Murphy. I remember when he used to be at least halfway funny. Eddie Murphy Raw is pretty much the best stand-up show I've ever seen, just sheer energy. Not sure about the purple leather jacket though.

I'd rather eat a bowl of earwax than sit through this. Yet stupid shit like Love Guru and Zohan? I'm quite looking forward to them, even though I know they'll be awful. Go figure.
