Looks like good mindless cinema. I like this quote from Rodriguez.
"If I decided I didn't want to be typecast tomorrow I'd just go do an indie film where I play some poor girl who goes through some excruciating experience and win myself an award for crying or being raped [breaks into laughter]"
I cannot even begin to tell you what Aaron Eckhart does to me when he plays a *normal* character... NOW they went and put him in military gear. AND HE'S HUNTIN' AND KILLIN' ALIENS!!!!
Must just be me then, generic Alien vs Military is what I saw with "woman & child in danger causes hero to soften" addition, whereby Hero realises his belief in the power of the US Army is false and sees people for who they are rather than a sterotype.
Climactic battle, aliens vanquished, surprise re-emergence of aliens, credits.
District 9 is the final word for me on alien films with action, genuine drama & pathos and it plays out logically.
That trailer looks like the beginning and end bits of War of The Worlds with shaky-cam Black Hawk Down soldier-y stuff and generic Hero bullshit.
CGI helicopters exploding & CGI aliens blowing shit up just doesn't ring my bell.
"Focking Prawn..it's the Sweety Man" tops MASSIVE PRETEND EXPLOSIONS any day of the week.
I was looking forward to ID4 since the trailers, but was seriously let down by the tone of the movie, also War of The Worlds, but that was light on military / alien scuffles.
This really needs to be awesome - the tone of the trailer says 'drama', but all it shows is non-stop action. Hopefully there'll be a decent balance of both.
