Review: Pandorum

Pandorum
Earth has depleted its resources and become over populated. The answer to this problem? Neuter the world's idiots? Nope - in Pandorum, the solution is to send a large group of cryogenically-frozen men and women into space, hurtling towards a newly found plant that can sustain life. Far less exciting an option, if you ask me.

Watched this last night and it was alright. The ship felt like a ship (less a collection of 5 sets like Event Horizon) and there were some interesting shots.

*The 5000 people being ejected into space while (at least one) being concious made me shiver*

All in all a 3 starrer for me. I enjoyed it.

Interesting, thoughtful SF is *always* going to be a niche. I prefer it that way to be honest. Some more would be nice, but I'd prefer the occasional classic to a wave of mediocrity.

Holy crap, I was just coming in here to say that same thing, boss. I'm kinda disappointed that this one is getting such terrible reviews. I was hoping it would be part of a wave of interesting, thoughtful sci-fi. Alas, it would appear as though stuff like Moon is going to continue to be the exception as opposed to the rule. *sigh*

I'm still wondering why they used Aerosmith's Steven Tyler for the poster image.

I don't want to spoil anything, but it is no wonder indeed who or what they are as the film goes on, but what is revealed about them isn't done in much of a dramatic way and isn't really played for shock anyway.. more just information for the main character. The big twist reveal is in relation to something else later in the film (and even that isn't handled very well).

No interest in this. The "mutant monsters" are blatantly obviously the human crew that's woke up early by accident, and the two others have been in Sus-am for a way longer length of time.

If this is told at the start, fine, but I get the feeling it's going to be a massive reveal. A reveal most people will be in on from the start. "well, duhhh....."
