Review: Piranha 3D

Piranha 3D is a film that truly wears its commercialism on its sleeve. Not like Transformers or GI Joe, which despite having the snigger-inducing opening credit 'Based on a Hasbro toy', still pretend to be legitimate filmmaking enterprises rather than lavishly expensive adverts by hiding within multiple layers of confusing narrative and unearned pathos. Not Piranha 3D though. Oh no.

I actually watched this a few weeks ago on blu-ray. Holy shit. The entire final third of the film is mind-blowingly epic carnage. It was sick and hilarious at the same time.

My sis and I have a theory that Elizabeth Shue was never shown the entire script and therefore thought she was making a completely different film.

If the film is at least 23% as good as this unfuckingbelievably awesome review, then I must-see-it.

And also worthy of noting is the fact that we got a reviewer that can be compared to Ali at his best. Hail to Chris and his review of the month!

I loved this. Dumb as hell but exactly what I wanted on a Friday night. Some of the fatalities were outstanding - I'm thinking of the girl caught in the propellor. The whole speedboat bit was actually quite disturbing - just the 'thunk' noise made me feel quite bad for laughing.

Also, underwater naked make-out ballet porn. Awesome.
