Review: Star Trek

Star Trek
Let's play a little game of word association. If I said 'majestic', 'enjoyable' and 'meaningful', you wouldn't think Star Trek, right? No. But if I said 'lazy', 'predictable' and 'dull'.... well, that's Star Trek down to a tee - at least, that's how it's been for the past decade and a half. Of late, Star Trek has been a poten...

Thanks, you fuck - now I've got that "Captain Jean Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise" song stuck in my head.

That'll take ages to get out.

I loved 'Sabotage'. Kinda grounded the movie a little, establishes it in this universe, just light years away. I like how it's futuristic, but not insanely, Blade Runner futuristic.

Clearly your love of Picard is getting in the way of you enjoying this film.

It's nothing like the Star Trek of old. In fact, it's too trendy. Everyone is sexy and toned, makes wisecracks all the time and they even managed to shoehorn "Sabotage" by The Beastie Boys in there.

To me, Star Trek has always been for the guys over there. You know, the ones building machines for Robot Wars and discussing the finer points of time travel. I may be a semi-geek but I'll never go all the way and watch Star Trek, never ever.

In my minority, everyone is right.

You're the racist, being offensive towards Trekkies. They're a race. A special needs race where everyone is the 'winner'.

That's just racist

Well if it helps your Star Wars therapy, Goaty, I thought it was a right load of old shite.

Stop it! Stop liking Star Trek!
Star Wars!!!! *points to 1977* Star Wars.
Not this well written, adeptly directed and enjoyable space opera.
Settle for Jar-Jar and "Annie" and "Nooooooooooo!" and Liam Neeson's sticky-on beard and lacklustre plotting and no imagination from a fatfucking highwayman of my dreams and hopes.

*sobs*

It was fantastic! I was almost compelled to go straight back in for the next show. Definitely seeing it again.
Excellent review by the way.

That's not the Enterprise, that's the USS Kelvin, a previous ship from the opening credits.

I just can't get into Star Trek, not sure why but it leaves me cold and this'll be a watch on tv in a few years time. I suppose I'm a wee bit jealous that the inferior Star Trek gets a decent movie that fans enjoy whilst us Star Wars babies are left sitting in our own shit, crying and throwing our rattles about.

Fuck George Lucas.

Absolutely fantastic, loved it with a passion. Never been the biggest Trek fan - even ridiculed a friend of mine with a dedicated Trek cupboard: he was literally in the closet - but I'm fully onboard now.

Epic in every sense.
