Review: The Blind Side

The Blind Side
American football is a sport we don't get much information on over here; as Alan Partridge said, it's just futuristic rugby, right? But it's okay that the rules are overly confusing and we don't play it at school, because there is little to no gridiron action included in American football movie The Blind Side.

I totally agree. Having grown up watching football (thanks to my dad, who I think has always secretly wished I was a boy) I am more than familiar with the game-- but that really is not what this story is about. It's about human compassion and helping someone in dire circumstances. For me, all I had to do was look at Quinton Aaron and tears welled in my eyes. Sadly, there are too many kids like Michael Oher who won't get the chance that he did.

Of course, over on this side of the pond, there were accusations of racism in this film-- how dare a white family help a young black kid-- mostly from the hardcore liberals who see racism in everything. The bottom line is that this is a true story, told very well. Did Sandra Bullock deserve the Oscar? Honestly, I think so. She carried the weight of this film on her shoulders and did it magnificently.
