Review: The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Sunday morning, at the Prince Caspian screening in the West End. There's a queue, winding from the cinema lobby, out into Leicester Square and down the road, 350-400 strong at least. At 10 o'clock in the morning. What the hell? I guess it's easy to forget that to some, this is just a sequel - another production line fantasy epic...

Not bad I guess, although it was partially ruined by the fact that the furthest I could get from the cinema screen was 15 foot. Plus I kept finding myself staring at Susan's breasts.

Just watched it. Much MUCH better and it goes some way to redeeming this franchise (i do hate that word).
Essentially everything it better. This actually feels like it's telling a story rather than just setting up CGI set-piece after CGI Set-piece. The pacing is far better, as is the script and there is a lot less jarring CGI.
If i have any complaints it's the normal problems with Disney films. They try to hard too be epic, the acting is questionable and the ever-present soundtrack is just damn annoying. Aside from that though, it's well worth seeing if you're a fan of the story and it has actually reignited some of my faith in this series.

They should make The Magician's Nephew, just to have an incredibly camp Uncle Andrew, constanting turning to camera to say the white witch is "a dem fine gell".

It would be awesome.

I expect it will be the 4 Pevensie books at most and even then i dont see The Last Battle being made. The Silver Chair, The Magicians Nephew and The Horse and His Boy are unlikely to be made now as they've fucked the chronology and those are mostly seperate stories.

I watched the 1st one, and apart from the hideous Christian allegory it was just confusing and boring. Who were the army that Tilda Swinton raised and where from? She just appeared with loads of Minotaurs and ogres and things without explanation and had a massive fight.
The kids acted like an Xmas schoolplay "And then the baby jesus came in from the inn and Mary said that she was cold and then Joseph said I do not need a bed just a manger and the baby jesus was born and that is how xmas is made" etc etc.
I just have zero interest in these movies.
Shame New Line fucked The Golden Compass so badly, that could've been awesome instead of just overwhelmingly "meh".
Prince Caspian...that sounds so incredibly gay.

Yeah, but when has something like chronology ever affected anyone in Hollywood? They all but butt-fucked Frederick Forsyth (never thought I'd write that sentence) with Bourne Identity but then went on and made up two more bloody brilliant films. I imagine they'll take a similar licence to the two Hobbit flicks they're making.

Bottom line: if there's money to be made, companies like Disney will try and make it.

If they do make the whole 7 books into films - it's interesting to see that they're making the films in the order that the books were written - not necessarily the order that they run in.

Obviously TLTW&TW was always going to be made first, but "The Horse and His Boy" (fifth in chronological authorship) follows directly after TLTW&TW, not "Prince Caspian"

I don't think they'll be making more than the 3 they're doing - as they've fucked up the story chronology already

I blame the cult of the celebrity chef for all knifey-teeny issues.

But I thought it was Grand Theft Auto's fault?

Lets just blame this movie and it's blatant use of edged weapons (without showing the true consequences) on the current spate of kids using knives to off each other.

I think I want to see this, especially in the cinema -- to many times I've missed out on seeing some of the more spectacular films on the big screen.

I agree that the first one was a bit pants though.

I think they've only greenlit the first three movies. After Voyage of the Dawn Treader, I imagine they'll count their millions and decide if they're making more. The Golden Compass bombing must have scared the suits silly.

Nope, not convinced. TLTW&TW was a disgrace i'm not going to sit through again. I'd recommend the BBC production from the late 80's.
I will wait with interest to see whether this current series lasts the full 7 books. I cant see how they'd sanitise The Last Battle
