Review: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

The writer of BB is the writer of Forrest Gump. I posted a link further down that compares the two. ;D

I still haven't seen this, and that's exactly what puts me off - it looks like too many other films smished together.

First see Henry and June, Shinler's List, Mrs Robinson and Forest Gump. I'm sure whoever conjured up "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" made a very detailed study of them.

Finally saw this last night. Mostly enjoyed it, though Daisy pissed me off. She was selfish, slutty and needy - make me think the screenwriter has issues with women. Given the only convincing and likable female character in it was Queenie - his mother - I think he needs mental help.

Now THAT'S a fucking Oscar worthy film! Visually brilliant, quite funny and desperately sad. I love how Fincher has used the idea of a man aging backwards as a way of crystallizing what are the big universal issues of life, love, loss, death. You could take away the issue of a man aging backwards and those issues would still exist. You will grow up awkwardly. You will fall in love. You will grow apart. The people you care about will get old, deteriorate and die, as will you. The fact these things are certainties for Button are what makes this tragic and it's that framing device which really is the emotional core of the film. To paraphrase from the inferior Slumdog thread, if you're not moved by this it's because you've a heart made of hay.
And yes, the hummingbird pissed me off too. That was just too heavy handed for what was otherwise a really well balanced film.

while i was watching it i just kept seeing similaritys to forrest gump. guy in love with girl all his life, goes on a crazy adventure and war and finally gets girl only to loose girl. it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the movie though.

The more I think about this movie, the more I'm pissed off that the relationship between BB and Daisy (when they finally get together) is almost skimmed over, to the level of montage. That's the part that really interested me.

I enjoyed it, and while the technical level is astounding, I didn't feel much chemistry between the leads.

3 1/2,m possibly 4 stars for me, and I hated the hummingbird motif.

Excellent. There are a couple missing (Letter to George Lucas, why I love Costner etc) but hey ho.
I've heard this Forrest Gump comparison before with Button and just do not see it. He doesn't affect major history events, he's not retarded, there is no twee message to it and Button isn't a dangerously facist ode to conformity & subservience.

Still desperate to see this. Stupid rain, stupid lazy bastard self. I will see this at the cinema, I will, I will. Even if it does have Cate Blanchett in it, who I increasingly cannot stand - not because she can't act, but because she can't help but 'act'. It's all over her face, like she's doing a poo.

i thought this film was great. they probably could have cut 10-20 min from it though, and this coming from a guy who can routinely watch 3 hour movies. i mean i watched all 3 godfathers in a single day, yes even the 3rd one.

the only real downfall in my opinon was how much it resembled forrest gump. i know with authurs their works are always similar but when it comes to movies you need to be able to be different. but i do love fincher's work.

If you go expecting epic romance film like English Patient etc you wont like it.
It's an arthouse film hiding underneath Brad Pitt's name.

My Dad saw this and said it was rubbish. Perhaps he's going mental.

I'm really looking forward to this one, it looks beautiful. I wish Fincher would take on another Fitzgerald story in The Great Gatsby.

It really is a stunning film, more so for not doing what you expect. Christ only knows what would've happened if, as planned, Spielberg had made this.
The "If this had happened 10 seconds earlier" segment is one of the best technical and narrative set-pieces since the opening 20min of Goodfellas.

Absolutely cannot wait for this. I love everything Fincher has ever done - even Alien3 and Panic Room. This looks amazing, just amazing. *excretes man love*
