You have to work hard to find decent modern horror. Most of it comes from overseas nowadays. I direct you towards [REC], The Orphanage and Pan's Labyrinth for just a few - I believe they're all Spanish.

Last House was pretty awful tbh. They microwave the guy's head! Surely most microwaves have strict rules that stop something like that from happening!

I haven't seen this, but did watch the original only last night. Sounds like the main difference is that back then, most of the really horrible things take place off screen, now they have to show a drawn out rape scene. Modern movies just don't seem to understand that it can be so much worse left to the imagination. This sounds completely unnecessary - what happened to originality in horror - if it weren't for Drag Me To Hell, I wouldn't have seen a decent new horror in years...
