Review: The Proposal

The Proposal
The Proposal is a strange film. It's exactly what you'd expect of an update to Gérard Depardieu's Green Card and yet for every occasion when it complies with one of the inevitable clichés demanded by its genre, there's a moment of subtle character development that implies that its creators really should be producing a stronger p...

Oh I meant to say that I watched this on the plane, and it was charming and unoffensive, the end was weirdly rushed and could have been 10 minutes longer I wouldn't have minded.
Sure, the humour was obvious and Betty White is old and still can't really act, but Sandra Bullock is lovely (i've just watched Miss Congeniality again), Ryan Reynolds is - as established - damn fine and lightheartedness is good. Any film featuring the musical stylings of Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock is a friend of mine.
On the same flight I saw Moon, Away We Go, The Soloist and Anvil: The Story of Anvil. I was movie-spoiled.

ETA: In his original Post, The Lovely Goatboy implies that our mums are cougars out dating young men.
That is disturbing.

Are those factually correct facts? Holy mother of Christicles.
I'm moving to Edmonton to work in a mall under the sea for popular marine mobile phone provider H02.
*Sandra Bullock zing of some kind.*

Oooooh get her and the "I'm moving"!
Move to Edmonton, they have a massive indoor golf inflatable bubble thing and an enormous mall with a submarine ride & theme park *inside*.
Er...so yeah, Ryan Reynolds

What's happening in September?

I will definitely watch this, for I am remarkably ungay for Ryan Reynolds and have been on that bandwagon since day 1. Sexy bastard.
Plus, it looks harmless and inoffensive and will take up some time whilst I wait for September to roll around.
The Ugly Truth, however, can bite my shiny metal ass.

I quite like Ryan Reynolds too - Just Friends is pretty funny. Wouldn't go full "Burmese General" on him, though, but I'd shake his hand and buy him a pint of Best for bagging "ScarJo".

Sandra Bullock is famous or rated?

Actually, why is Sandra Bullock famous or rated? She was in Speed, but that was all about Keanu & Hopper & De Bont's adrenalin mayhem, she was token female. But since then?...she seems to have filled the gap that Monster Ryan used to occupy in these nothing-really girl films.

Oh, I didn't say he was COOL - Sandra Bullock has seen that accolade away from him for a while at least. I just meant he's better than I once thought. Before I would have steered clear of his movies now I could quite happily watch that man take a shower if he did it in a wise-cracking kinda way...

It's impossible to like him while he remains married to ScarJo. Bast! It should have been me!

So he's been in chick-flicks and Wolverine...and that's a mark of cool how?

I'm gay for Ryan Reynolds. I think we all are, deep down.

Is it me, or is Ryan Reynolds actually likeable now? I hated the guy with a vengeance after his smug "sarcastic badass" turn in Blade Trinity and hoped we'd never hear from him again.

Then I watched Definitely Maybe (er...for the girlfriend) and warmed a little, then his 17 seconds of screentime was the best part of the Wolverine movie and NOW he's talking up a Deadpool solo outing that sounds like it might actually be really good.... is everyone already on the Reynolds bandwagon and I'm just late to jump on?

When you have to watch shitty films like I do, you realise there's a whole other level of bad out there: I'm talking Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus bad. Honestly, after some of the low-budget, unoriginal, badly written and shonkily directed shite I've had to watch this year, a film like this isn't too bad at all.

Yeah, it's unoriginal and predictable and ordinary. But it's hard to actively loathe while watching it. Just wait for The Ugly Truth - that's a fucking despicable wrong-com.

These are the sorts of film I just don't understand. Who watches them except for our mums or guys who go with potential suitors because it'll earn them sex credits?
Transformers I loathe but I get it, loud stupid colours = kerching!!!!!
But these middling, forgettable rom-com things...I just don't get it.
Meg Ryan would be making these still if she hadn't blown her face up and in.
Just films made of nothing for nobody, and yet they continue.
