The Social Network is not a movie that sounds good on paper. The origin story of Facebook, the most ubiquitous website on the web? David Fincher ditching his serial killer chic to focus on an internet start-up? Starring Justin Timberlake? Dammit, where's the 'dislike' button on this thing...
Honestly can't remember if I've seen this or not.
I definitely remember the start and up to...uh...some talking in a boardroom from Zombieland but the rest is missing from my brain.
I loved it - was confident Fincher would get the focus right, but there was a nagging doubt punches would be pulled. No chance: the characters were more like caricatures, and without going to those extremes of their personalities it would have made a boring film.
Brilliant movie. All the elements you need for a quality piece of entertainment. Socially awkward genius, evil twins, lawsuits, a sleazy third party into coke and underage girls, lies, betrayal and conflict.
I can't see what difference creating a facebook account would have on your enjoyment of this movie neophyte. It's a company name and nothing more. I think all you get to see of the site is a few wireframe mockups and the very occasional page. Oh, and the beautiful ending scene.
I was fascinated by this movie, didn't want it to end. Zuckerberg -- as he's portrayed in the movie -- is one of the more interesting characters in recent memory to me. Brought up a lot of questions and discussions amongst my friends. I was initially worried that it would suck just because it's "the Facebook movie", but like Ali said, it's doesn't really matter what website this was about; this was more a character study than an origin story.
Probably my #3 favorite movie of the year behind Inception and Toy Story 3.
