Top 20 Ridiculous Action Movie Moments

Top 20 Ridiculous Action Movie Moments
Action movies should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but sometimes you've got to say enough is enough. We can stomach exploding choppers, secret agents and kung fu chefs, but every so often an action movie comes along with a scene so dumb, it defies belief - the moment that yanks you out of the film and has you muttering ...

If we could post pictures in comments, you'd be looking at the Picard facepalm right now.

Hi, welcome to the website.

Yes, we really think all of this, which is why we held an awards ceremony - didn't you catch the livestream? Denzel Washington turned up to collect his, then got trashed on home-made White Lightning in a toilet cubicle. Took them days to get rid of the stench. John Travolta offered to pay any dry cleaning fees and Michael Bay was on hand to provide pleasing words for anyone upset by the incident. Tommy Lee Jones proved how useless he was by giggling the whole time.

For someone named "Joker" you're taking this article very seriously...?

I wonder if you people should go and watch movies with some little less brains. Assholes, this list is as shitty as the writer.
The matrix smith fight is stupid because the makers thought we wont notice that other smiths were cgiss.
I noticed that, still enjoyed the scene, as did lots of other million people. You guys think that they should really cut out each other hands for a slash fight scene, do a real 9/11 for a 9/11 scene, clone a person in order to have the you know what scene, really destroy the earth to film an earth destruction scene. goddam you all, a movie is for entertainment, and even the most realistic scenes are not real, cause its a movie.
Most idiotic list i have ever seen, dude you should just commit suicide, the earth is a better place without 'brainy' morons like you.

One other thing-
I do agree though that the deadly strain of Intel or IBM PowerPC virus machine code infecting the 'totally alien' alien computers can probably sit at number 2!!!
Being a person that works in IT, we find that one particularly poignant!
Whats sad tho is that I happened to have a conversation with a semi computer literate friend of mine, and he seemed to think it was perfectly feasible.

P.S. Great site btw.

Hi all, just had to register to post this one after reading the article and its comments.
Heres one more, I'm not even going to name the film, y'all know it -
Jean Reno is piloting a helicopter, snags a train and promptly flies it into the channel tunnel. Still snagged, flies it for several minutes of intense action sequence, tom cruise is propelled by explosion towards the helicopter, survives and continues the battle, and in the end the helicopter blades miss cruises face by millimetres.
#1 imho.
Come on - I think the article is in need of a revision, there are some far stupider moments in the comments than in the top ten.
Am I right?

Oh, also: Another ridiculous movie is 'Signs'. On top of all the other impossibilities, the aliens turn out to have a corrosive reaction to water, a substance present in Earth's weather conditions and air. They're also unable to open wooden doors for some godforsaken reason, nevermind their legs are strong enough to leap several feet into the air.

That's some funny shit. Surprised you didn't include anything from those awful Terminator movies. But yes Michael Bay is horrible.

Oh and, with all due respect: Most (intelligent) Americans thought Pearl Harbor was a horrible movie.

Charlies Angels should have been number 1. If not for the helicopter scene, how about when they acyually FLY around town chasing Demi Moore. They don't have jetpacks or anything. They just leap off a building and can just suddenly fly.

Honorable Mention: Batman and Robin's ice skating fight scene. Although I don't really remember the boring action scenes, Uma Thurman's "acting" made it feel like someone was kidney punching me.

Hehe, "retard-cherry on the mongcake."

Oh, and I forgot to credit you for the 'Nicolas Cage peering into the back of a spoon' gag, sorry. If it's any consolation it's been read by abut 60,000 people.

Aye, jetpack shootouts rule. And Draco being fired through an airlock years after Ripley did it is just the retard-cherry on the mongcake. Live & Let Die is the best Bond film, it's been proven by men in labs with charts.

And the rest of Moonraker isn't?

Still remains one of my favorite camp Bond movies though.

Keanu stole that from James Bond, the opening for Moonraker when Jaws pushes him out and Bond steals his chute in mid-air.
Actually, Jaws smashes through the roof of a barn and wanders off doesn't he? That's pretty fucktarded

How in the world is this list is missing perhaps the stupidest action movie moments starring the two actors synonomous with action. The movie: Point Break. The scene: Keaneau the Shitsack jumps out of a freaking plane without a parachute to chase the Master Patrick Swayzee. He of course has made ONE jump prior so he totally knows what he is doing. That has to be number one.

I thought Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen driving a Mercedes our the skylight on a very-soon-to-explode warehouse was a bit of a "Wha-?" moment.

And the "shark brings down a helicopter" scene was Jaws 2, although the helicopter was parked on the water at the time.

What about Deep Blue Sea, when the hyper-intelligent shark jumps out the water and grabs Samuel L. Jackson?

Other shark-relataed nonsense: Jaws when he brings down the helicopter (can't remember which film that was). Isn't there some other fantastic shark movie out soon?

Also, Reign of Fire WAS all shades of swesome, but yeah, the freefalling thing was utter toss.

@tr1gz: Good call on Transporter 2 - i've been expecting it in the top 3 and couldn't believe it's not on the list at all.

The other significant omission and top 3 candidate: xXx 2
Come on, is anything more ridiculous than Ice Cube burning all the rubber off the wheels of his sports car, then jumping on the rails and chasing a bullet train at full speed? I can't belive it isn't on the list.

“Upload a virus? Sure! I'll go ahead and assume the aliens are using Windows Vista and save the world!”

The problem with that comment is they used a Mac not a PC. Which makes the scene all the more unbelievable since no one on Earth even uses Macs.

Need to read up on your movie quotes buddy...... Josh Hartnett's character doesn't say "I think World War 2 just started!!" He does in fact say "I think World War 2 just hit us!", which is obviously a bit more accurate. Arrogant and dumb as the US may be, they certainly made a helluva difference for the "goodies" side in WW2.

And I think every Arnold movie ever made should have been on this list over things like Deja Vu and The Matrix.

Hey you're totally wrong about Swordfish! I mean they actually did that - SERIOUSLY! There was no one in the bus, but they really did lift it with a helicopter and drive over highways in New York. It's on the dvd, the shots where they show the people in the bus being thrown around is fake - it was done with a blue screen. But the outside shots showing the bus being lift into the air is real. They had a nightmare getting the licenses to do the shot, but in the end it's definitely one of the most amazing scenes in a completely stupid movie.

"The "take them up in a 'chopper, then freefall for 5 minutes trying to catch a dragon" in "Reign Of Fire" I was shouting at the screen with that one."

Haha, the effects on the american jumping to slay the dragon at the end made me laugh my ass off.

What? You don't have Jamie Lee Curtis' magic Uzi from True Lies? The one she drops down the stairs and only fires when it's pointed at the terrorists?

Classic!

I can't believe Transporter 2 wasn't even mentioned. The scene where Jason Statham has a bomb planted to the bottom of his car and he manages to jump off a ramp, flip his car upside down across a body of water, unhook the bomb on a crane, and flip his car upright and land perfectly on the ground is utter bs.

Wow. Most of these look less like a matter of "ridiculous action scenes" and more like "somebody doesn't understand what 'genre conventions' are."

Nitpicking something like Kill Bill because the enemies don't sneak up on the hero from behind is just silly, the sort of stuff I'd expect from a bunch of college-aged Trekkies with half-finished engineering degrees. You might as well walk into a Hong Kong movie festival and bitch because you could see the wires.

Reign of Fire ruled, however silly the premise. But when Batman Begins & "Naked Bongo Menace" McGillagong are fighting dragons, logic no count.
My fav "Oh fuck off" moment is all of "Underworld", possibly one of the worst films ever made in the history of memory.

The *totally* ripped off from "Aliens" 'chopper crash in "D.N.A" (1:43 through the movie) Absolutely obvious blue screen and model work. Hell, Aliens was too, but it didn't look as if it was done in someones basement.

The "take them up in a 'chopper, then freefall for 5 minutes trying to catch a dragon" in "Reign Of Fire" I was shouting at the screen with that one.

Almost making the list were...

The T3 fire truck scene
The Con Air Vegas destruction
The 300 slow-mo stab-a-thon
The Harrier finale from True Lies
Hard Boiled's baby saving and a few others

Couldn't think of any particularly OTT Die Hard sequences though.
