"Hurt" may not be cool, but the Chili Peppers one is a hell of a lot cooler than Van Sants ode to topless men, go look up "Can't Stop". And the Nine Inch Nails ones he's done are infinitely better than Fincher's effort. I mean come on man, "Closer" is where Fincher got his style ideas for Se7en.

Yep, and that's exactly why I didn't want to add another guy primarily known for music videos. The Glazer video is better than any of Romaneks in my opinion anyway.

I thought about doing Mark Romanek for those exact reasons but decided against it because, as you say, he's only made one film and I didn't think One Hour Photo was all that. Also, I would have felt weird about including the 'Hurt' video under the pretense of 'coolness' (although I have just realised I forgot to put the word 'coolest' in the title - meh). It's a great video though.

And you appear to have overlooked Mark Romanek.
He's done videos for Nine Inch Nails, REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Lenny Kravtiz, Jay-Z, Coldplay.
But most importantly, and my personal number one choice - "Hurt" by Johnny Cash. Not only a the last video Cash ever made, but it's a promo-video, a eulogy, a career summation and a love letter to his wife.

And he made One Hour Photo - one of the only decent Robin Williams performances.

The "Under The Bridge" by Gus Van Sant video. The shirtless Keidis sprinting confuses? Van Sant is as gay as they come and makes men look pretty in his films, topless running man wouldn't be the 1st time he's done that. See "Elephant" or...well...any others.

Gah, those fucking YouTube pop-up things are so irritating. It didn't even come up when I first watched it.

And yeah, Gondry has at least four or five that are on this list. The Cibo Matto one is incredible but I have a soft spot for the Chemicals one, it's so completely mental and impossible and lovely. I really do not know how you'd even begin making a video like that.

Also, David Fincher directed 'Opposites Attract' by Paula Abdul and MC Skat Kat. Yeah, the one with the cartoon cat. "People say we could be lovers" indeed. That's probably lamer than the Bay one but it made me laugh so it stayed.

Also, there's plenty of misnomers out there about music videos. I found at least four or five sites that claimed that David Lynch directed a) the sexy Helena Christensen 'Wicked Game' video and b) the awesome Massive Attack 'Unfinished Sympathy' video. Not true on both counts.
