Review: Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen
It doesn't take a genius to figure out why, out of all the big ass summer blockbusters this year, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen was the one I was least worried about performing. Camp-as-Christmas Hugh Jackman trying and failing to unleash his inner animal? Cringe. Christian Bale's CHAN CANNAR trying to avoid termination at...

Rewatched on Blu-ray. Won't make a habit of re-rating films, but yeah, this ain't four stars - three on a good day maybe.

Still big dumb fun, but there are continuity errors that stink out the room (entering the Smithsonian in Washington DC, exiting in an Arizona desert) and some of the fight scenes are impossible to follow, because really, they're just someone clanking together two big meshes of gears and cogs.

It's really not one to fire up the critical faculties for at all. To do so is missing the point: it's supposed to be mindless entertainment, but it's not even particularly great at being that.

Edit: Still better than Terminator Salvation, though.

It was horrible, just a horrible, loud, hate-filled film, with no style or substance.

Just watched this. 4 stars? Get to fuck. So long. So undecipherable. So many unecessary cast members. And they're doing it a third time??

Shai "woahwoahwoahwoahnonononononoshitshitshitshitwoman scream" TheBeef has to stop ... being in movies.

Get The Transformers: The Movie in your DVD player to remind yourself how moving Optimus' death should be. Jeez-o.

This is going to be the best movie this summer no doubt! well at least for me since I enjoyed the first one and rated it my favorite movie of 2007!

Worth mentioning the audio FX in this movie are astounding, really top stuff. Not seen any reviews that really mention it, but the sound is spot on, all clunks and whirrs and thuckathuckathucka chopper noises. Awesome stuff.

I hate cars that turn into robots.
Why can't it be robots that turn into dustpans or laptops and stuff?
"Megatron vs Porn Cookie Cache: Revenge of the delete my history so the missus doesn't know"??
Big fighty robots...we're just about out of ideas now.

That's not true though, is it Luke? They're big robots... that turn into CARS.
It's a very important, worthwhile, distinction. Otherwise people will confuse it with all those other Big Robot movies that don't star MTV Movie Award Nominee Shia LeBeouf, and then where would we be?

It was Bernie Mac.

First one was a pile of effects-driven shite, expect much the same from this one but then what do you expect when the entire franchise can be summed up with "they're big robots".

I tried to watch the 1st one, I really did. I made it to when the kid went to buy a car and all the windows blew out, Ving Rhames was the salesman I think? But I could feel my system shutting down as it went any further so had a wank instead.
Good luck to anybody who enjoys Transformers...it's just really not my sort of film anymore.

chris, you thought the first movie was Dull?!?!?!?!? Are you kidding me? If you're skipping it, why bother writing a comment about it then? you also could not understand what was going on in the first movie? what a moron

I enjoyed the first one for exactly what it was, and am looking for to this one with as much glee, too.

And "cacophony" is such an excellent word.

You can count me out of this one. While I wouldn't call the first one bad, it was dull beyond belief. Might not have been the case if I could have figured out what was going on half the time, but that's not Bay's MO. As this one looks like more of the same, I'll be skipping it. Good review, though.
