What these new pics tell us about David Fincher's Lisbeth Salander
More photos have surfaced of Rooney Mara as the new Lisbeth Salander and they're punky, provocative and...well...posed. This is exactly how I imagined Lisbeth would look if she were modelling Diesel clothing. Way to stick it to the man, Salander.

Truly, smoking will never go out of style in the movies.

I think by definition anything trying not to be cool immediately becomes so, while anything trying to be cool is trash. I think that makes these pictures awful. It's like trying to put a polish on punk.

Ali, I agree that this photo shoot was rediculous and a bad idea, but Salander not cool? A modern female cyberpunk wearing black leather and with uber hacking skills to boot? In a world of bland cynism and vanilla rom-com characters, shes a great looking kick-in-the-eye.

How dare you be so reasonable, akkahmalakah!

Let's not be shallow. I'm a massive fan of David Fincher and there were skeptics before the Social Network as well. I think Mara suits the role, and obviously there's going to be significant morphing between films as they're being created in different worlds.

Fincher's got the directoral skill and flair to create a properly amazing piece of cinema, I'm not going to write that off because of a misjudged piece of PR.

Do not know the original, but the pics I was shown there do not encourage me to see either the European or US version.

Also, she should not take off her top, because I am afraid she might have there as much as I do. Meaning hardly anything.

PS. 'WOW' idea of tattoo pwned.

I have faith as it's Fincher, but this was misjudged.
Salander would no more post for a photoshoot than you or I. Sociopathic, sneery & would refuse simply because somebody asked her to.

She *looks* like the character as described, but a clean Hollywood version. Like an extra from a My Chemical Romance video.
Just bizarre to do a photoshoot "in" character. If that was the case, it'd be an empty studio.

I'm guessing Fincher/Mara have to do this sort of nonsense as part of their contract, through gritted teeth.
I can't see a director who pissed of product placement sponsors by having their cars/sodas destroyed or featured prominently in scenes of violence in "Fight Club" suddenly volunteering to do a Vogue spread.

Because in 2011, 'damaged' is sexy.

As long as her top comes off at some point I'll be happy.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I never watched the original Millenium but I vaguely remember Lisbeth Salander as being quite terrifying. Rooney Mara looks like Paris Hilton if she suddenly hooked up with Marylin Manson and hired Terry Richardson to celebrate the event.

It's exactly what i'd expect from a US remake. S'all about the media innit. Lisbeth's edgy, therefore cool. In fact; she's edgy therefore completely antisocial and sexless, and she will fuck you up dollsnatch.
Like you say, they'll be folk in Hoxton thinking that's totally fucking Mexico.

This is the worst idea since that poncey magazine put Shrek in their photoshoot.

Are these supposed to be in character? I mean, it's obviously the actress, in costume, but... why? Why is she posing in a magazine photoshoot? I only get the impression they were going for 'cool' and 'bad girl' but they've tried too hard.

Salander isn't supposed to be cool, she's supposed to be the opposite. There are people walking around Hoxton like this right now. That ballet picture is fucking ridiculous and makes me want to see the new movie less. Bad PR move in my eyes.
