Review: X-Men: First Class

X-Men: First Class
With Brett ‘The Hitman’ Ratner killing off half the characters in X-Men: The Last Stand, it’s no surprise that the franchise had to be rebooted, but do we really need to see a Bash Street Kids version of the mutant superheroes? And what can it tell us that we don’t already know? Well, how about the fact that Magneto used to be a globe-trotting Bond-a-like and Xavier was a beer-chugging ladies man? Admit it, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart suddenly seem much more interesting…

Was looking for this last night and struggled to understand why it wasn't coming up in my Amazon search.
Then I remembered it's not called X-Men Babies.

really enjoyed this, theres nothing i love more than a little nazi bashing!!

anyway....such an enjoyable film, i liked the whole young imature mutant growing, being named, good vs evil thang...but hey im a romantic!

i must say though theres a few too many comic book films coming out/being made/in the pipeline, i know trailers should relate to the film but basically all the trailers were comic books, or bad teacher...

Still reeling from the fact that I posted this and then realised I didn't once mention January Jones' tits.

They're great.

Matt has it about right. It's over two hours but feels really pacy and it feels juuust far enough removed from the old X-Men movies to have its own style and tone. Basically a remake of all three of the first movies, but covers it all in a much more enjoyable fashion.

Cast is great, effects are mostly okay, Kevin Bacon is an excellent villain (also coined the term 'Bacon helmet') and the score is very good too.

Only thing I could have done without were the incessant nods to existing canon, and the whole 'we should give each other superhero names!' thing. EVERYONE KNOWS WHO YOU ARE ALREADY, IDIOTS. The last line is particularly clunky.

Still, loving the Mac and Fass show. Not sure if they could really do a sequel though.
