Review: Year One

Year One
Director Harold Ramis first had the idea for Year One over thirty years ago. In 1975, after watching a documentary on the Stone Age, he wrote an improv with Bill Murray and John Belushi as cavemen; the former as a hip-talking Cro-Magnon Man, the latter as a grunting neanderthal. Sadly, what makes a funny sketch in the seventies ...

Then he'd do air guitar and blow the stuffy future society away. And Michael Cera would shrug and make an off-the-cuff comment, quietly.

They should send Jack Black into the future, that would be a good movie. Everyone could wear silver suits, and he could raise one eyebrow at them.

He's not just Jack Black... he's Jack Black in The Stone Age! Tee hee! Ha ha! Ho ho! Here's a cheque for $50 million!

The poster sums the film up really. Jack Black is Jack Black (yet again) and the kid from Superbad is the kid from Superbad again.
Lazy, formulaic movies just bore me to tears now.

Oh, and I absolutely can't stand Jack Black - this is him at his worst. Really really over-acting. Just look at his face on the poster. Reminds me of this.

I'll forgive Michael Cera a lot, purely because of Arrested Development. But to be honest, he's just a one-note as Jack Black really. That whole practised quite shuffle. Makes me laugh, but for how much longer?

Disappointed! I really wanted this to be funny, but i could see from the trailer that there was a chance it was more-of-the-same from Black. And the cameos are gettign a little "Dean Martin & Friends"... But I do love Oliver Platt and Paul Rudd so I'll probably watch it. Me hearties.
