Give Tree Of Life the Oscar already

Ali

28th March 2011

This brand new poster for Terrence Malick's The Tree Of Life has already been described as "beyond beautiful", despite being a collection of stills paired with a nice font. I smell Oscars!

I'll be the first to admit that The Tree Of Life will probably be one of 2011's better films when all is said and done, but the amount of fawning at each new peek at Terrence Malick's latest 'masterpiece' really sticks in the craw. So far, we've seen an ambiguous, artsy-fartsy trailer which was made up of a series of pretty looking shots; now IMDB have debuted the one-sheet poster to rapturous applause. I'll let you judge for yourself.

Is... is it just me? That's just lots and lots of little pictures. I mean, they're all very nice and all (although you'll notice Sean Penn manages to appear miserable even in miniature) but no one was wanking themselves into a froth when Woody Allen debuted his new similar poster. I forgot - over-eager Allen makes on average a movie per year, unlike work-shy Malick, who's still too busy unlocking all the secret levels on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 to make more than a film a decade.

"Ugh. So derivative."
