Here's the first look at Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, a geek slacker comic-book adaptation. Doesn't that already sound like the kind of film that he was born to make?
Edgar Wright has really been working out of his
comfort zone with this latest project, separated from his chums, Pegg and Frost, as well as filming in the US of A and adapting a pre-existing work.
And while we'll need a much-anticipated trailer to really start forming opinions of how good the final product is going to be, these pics are a great teaser...particularly the tantalising action shot.
But first, here's the synopsis, plot fans:
Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It's getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart's ass-and now is back in town-to the teenage distraction he's trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn't been easy.
He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.
Having not read the comic book, I have no expectations, but I'm hoping the fact that
Michael Cera looks unrecognisable with that fierce determination instead of his usual social awkwardness points to a different kind of role for him.
Mix in the seemingly out-of-place back-flip and the big, red, flaming sword, like some kind of samurai lightsaber, and I have geek butterflies in my pants.
