Rambo 5 goes sci-fi

Ali

5th September 2009

Earlier this week, the trades reported that a fifth Rambo movie was in production. What they failed to report on was that a) the movie will contain sci-fi elements, and b) Sylvester Stallone is totally fucking insane.

Stallone has been bigging up a fifth outing for steroid mountain Rambo for a while now - ever since the success of last year's comeback, in fact. But after Variety et al broke the official announcement this week, Sly has contacted AICN to set the record straight.

Conversing with his bum-chum Harry 'Snickers Pie' Knowles, Stallone apparently claimed the 'human traffickers' angle touted by Variety was wide of the mark, and instead revealed that Rambo V - now titled Rambo V: The Savage Hunt - would have sci-fi leanings.

(*record scratch*)

Yup, Rambo V is going the way of Predator. The movie will allegedly see Stallone's old warhorse heading up a Black Ops team in the Pacific Northwest, tasked with tracking down savage, 'genetically engineered super-soldiers' gone awry. In other words, he's hunting Universal Soldiers in the jungle.

I hope I'm not alone in thinking this is a retarded idea. The series has now strayed so far from its roots, they might as well give Rambo the power to fly and shoot lasers from his eyes.

Will there be a scene where Rambo narrows his eyes and sagely claims, "Man is the most dangerous of all"? Will there be a scene when the hammy old army general responsible for the botched experiments gets his come-uppance? Will Sly's team be picked off one by one until it's just a shirtless Stallone Vs Beast? At this early stage, who can tell? (Everyone).

AICN also provided a hastily Photoshopped one-sheet, below, which apparently qualifies as promotional material, even though it was clearly made by Sylvester Stallone on his lunch break.
