Ricky Gervais roasts Hollywood at Golden Globes

Matt

17th January 2011

Whatever you think of the giggling comedy hamster, you have to admire a man who publicly mocks A-list stars powerful enough to have him disembowelled live on air, no questions asked.

So, in case you haven't heard, the Golden Globe Awards took place last night and, unlike other movie websites, we didn't stay up until 4am reporting on events. Why? Because they're the Golden Globes.

However, we have kindly put together a list of all the winners at the bottom of this page so that we can get to what's most important about these things - crying "Travesty!" in the comments beneath.

In the meantime, here are a few choice jokes told by presenter Ricky Gervais to a theatre full of gasping Americans:

On 3D films and The Tourist:

"
"
It seems like everything this year was three-dimensional... except the characters in The Tourist
On introducing presenters Tom Hanks and Tim Allen:
"
"
What can I say about our next two presenters? The first is an actor, producer, writer and director whose movies have grossed over $3.5bn at the box office. He's won two Academy Awards and three Golden Globes for his powerful and varied performances starring in such films as Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Castaway, Apollo 13 and Saving Private Ryan. The other is Tim Allen.
On Charlie Sheen:
"
"
It's gonna be a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie calls it: breakfast.
On I love You, Phillip Morris:
"
"
...two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay - so the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists, then.
On Sex and the City 2:
"
"
I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that airbrushed [the Sex and the City 2] poster. Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of Bonanza.
Gervais also introduced Bruce Willis as "Ashton Kutcher's dad". Legend.
