True Lies TV series gets green light

James Cameron's Arnie-based spy thriller is making the leap from the big screen to the small, only without James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Kind of like Alias, then. Without Jennifer Garner.

Hi, TV land - Ali here, from the blue pastures of movie blog TheShiznit.co.uk. I 'spied' a bit of telly news that I thought I'd share with the LBP faithful. Also, I wanted to use that pun.

Hugely entertaining spy thriller True Lies is being adapted into a television series by James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. Unsurprisingly, it won't star the current Governator of Califorminator or be based on his character, but will likely be a spin-off set around the government agency known as The Omega Sector. We doubt the in-joke will work quite so well now that Charlton Heston's hands are cold and dead, but still. Chances of a Tom Arnold supporting role? Big. Roseanne big.

Cameron probably won't be directly involved with True Lies: The Series, although if you remember, he did shoot the final episode of Dark Angel, so anything's possible between Pandoran jaunts. It'll go out on ABC in America when it's good and ready.

I'm not sure American TV really needs another spy thriller, what with Burn Notice mopping up the mong drool and all that, but True Lies has a strong brand recognition (erk, who let in the media professor) and if a series can maintain the same balance between action and humour, it could be a hit. Hands off or not, Cameron doesn't lend his name to any old shit. (*sharp intake of breath*).

And hey, Arnie's tenure as President or whatever is almost up. Dare to dream, America: Harry Tasker could be appearing on a TV near you soon.
