Winners of the 2010 Bafta awards

Matt

22nd February 2010

The Baftas are either a good indication of next month's Academy Award achievers, or just a watered-down version of the Oscars that holds no interest for people outside of the UK. *adopts cheery newscaster voice* Here are the winners!

If there was any doubt that this was a British awards ceremony, nominees and guests had to brave the typical English drizzle as well as the announcement that Prince William will be taking over from Richard Attenborough as the new president of Bafta.

That's rain and royalty. Throw in a cup of tea, a red telephone box and a bumbling bobby on the street and those yanks would have been in a right old English tizzle. Altogether now: #"Knees up, Muvver Braahn..."#

Ahem. And the winners are:

The Orange Rising Star Award (Voted For By The Public)
Kristen Stewart

So that's a whole lotta loving for The Hurt Locker, with some kudos given to Colin Firth, A Prophet and, pleasingly, Duncan Jones' Moon. However, despite Avatar's eight nominations, the Na'vi only impressed in the technical categories - maybe it's not a Best Picture Oscar shoo-in after all?

And Kristen Stewart won the public's vote for Orange's Rising Star Award? That'll be a public made up of Twi-hards with mobile phone bills higher than their IQs then.

Just think, the Oscars are coming in two weeks' time, and then we can just concentrate on discussing how good Kick Ass is.
