Review: Deliver Us From Evil

Deliver Us From Evil
Have you ever had your enjoyment of a film completely derailed by a small, insignificant part of that movie? A niggle that becomes a bother than becomes all you can think about? I had that with possession thriller Deliver Us From Evil, a competent, forgettable horror flick from the guy who made Sinister. It's a fairly enjoyable movie, if a little flat and unambitious, but in terms of possession movies starring C-list actors with bad scripts, it's par for the course. Except for one thing. A single sound effect. Which ruins the entire movie.

Review: Hanna

Hanna
Joe Wright must be secretly pissed that Mark Millar's Kick-Ass came along and pooped on his doorstep, because Hanna is a pretty hard sell, post Hit-Girl. Teenage assassin trained as a killing machine since birth? Unless your movie has Nicolas Cage dressed like Batman with a paedo-tache, you're fighting a losing battle from the start.

Funny People

The Time Traveler's Wife
Sci-fi geeks across the globe are scratching their heads at this one. "So there's a guy who has harnessed the power to traverse past and future...and this film is about his missus?"

Review: Star Trek

Star Trek
Let's play a little game of word association. If I said 'majestic', 'enjoyable' and 'meaningful', you wouldn't think Star Trek, right? No. But if I said 'lazy', 'predictable' and 'dull'.... well, that's Star Trek down to a tee - at least, that's how it's been for the past decade and a half. Of late, Star Trek has been a poten...

Review: Hulk

Hulk
Admit it, you were a bit sceptical, weren't you? I mean, it's one thing converting a hugely popular comic book superhero into a successful movie, but a completely CGI Hulk as the main character? That'll cause a few problems, right? Hiring Ang Lee, director of The Ice Storm and Sense & Sensibility, also raised a few eyebrows -...
