  • The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 12th August 2015

The action hero has come a long way since the 60s. Once calm, unobtainable specimens of perfection have gradually morphed into tough, emotionally closed anti-heroes, and then into testosterone-fuelled musclemen, and now they're flawed and troubled characters in touch with their - ugh - feelings. Superheroes are forever in search of their own life purpose (the clue is in the word 'superhero', guys), lone wolf cops have money worries, even Tom Cruise is now contractually obligated to have his character make at least one mistake in his movies. And James Bond cries now. He actually cries. So call it an adaptation, a rehash, another unoriginal concept in a Hollywoodland bereft of creativity, or whatever - The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is still one of the most refreshing action films you'll see this year.

  • The Rewrite

    Movie Review | Becky Suter | 10th October 2014

Before I launch into my review of The Rewrite, I'd like to take the opportunity to tell you about my own script entitled "Another Shit Movie Starring Hugh Grant", where Hugh Grant plays Hugh Grant, a Hugh Grant who is trying to make a film about Hugh Grant being Hugh Grant, but Hugh Grant doesn't want to Hugh Grant anymore, so Hugh Grant must out-Hugh Grant's Hugh Grant, and everyone's Hugh Grant. If by now, you want to stick pins in your eyes to prevent me from going any further, then you will know how I felt watching The Rewrite.

  • Cloud Atlas

    Movie Review | Matt | 15th November 2012

Epic doesn’t quite cover it: Six stories spliced together covering six different genres and time-periods ranging from the 19th century to a far, distant future, all featuring the same handful of actors playing a host of different characters and each linked together by themes of fate, causality and consequence. Plus, there’s a whole range of remarkable prosthetics on display, meaning that you could just end up spending the whole near-three-hour running time playing Guess The Actor Under The Rubber Nose.

  • The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists

    Movie Review | Ali | 29th March 2012

There are two things guaranteed in this life: 1) Hugh Grant is so debonair he could charm the pants off a concrete nun, and 2) No one does animation quite like Aardman. Put these two sure things together and it's no surprise that The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists is the first truly great animated film of the year: a painstakingly-modelled laugh riot that boggles the mind while tickling the funnybone.

  • Hugh Grant > Johnny Depp

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 26th October 2011

New Aardman trailer makes Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides look like Cutthroat Island, and makes Cutthroat Island look like an actual Somali pirate. So you know it's good!

  • Hugh and a Half Men?

    TV News | Ed Williamson | 13th May 2011

Ha! I bet no one else came up with that headline to report the news that Hugh Grant is in talks to take over from Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men! (*conducts Google search*) Oh. Oh, right.

  • Films on TV round-up: Denzel, Arnie and... Renée?

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 8th May 2011

That's right, it's back. What d'you mean, you didn't know it went away? Words can hurt, you know. Anyway, this week it's guns, muscles and...er...romcoms based on chick-lit novels. You can't say we don't have a sensitive side.
