  • Today I learned: Dumb & Dumber could have been way more intense

    Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 20th February 2014

To reiterate: that's Nicolas Cage coming off the back of Deadfall, and Gary Oldman fresh off True Romance. I'm laughing already! (Via IMDB)

  • Kick-Ass 2

    Movie Review | Ali | 15th August 2013

Remember the key word of superhero sequel The Dark Knight? Escalation. Christopher Nolan took the events of Batman Begins and used them as a foundation for the mayhem to come: how would Bruce Wayne's actions in the first movie affect the world in which he lived? Well, Kick-Ass 2 takes exactly the same approach by expanding its world, but somehow manages to feel smaller and less impressive as a result.

  • The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

    Movie Review | Neil | 12th March 2013

In order to raise this review to an intellectual level beyond all others, I learned the word 'prestidigitation', which means 'sleight of hand': the cunning technique by which magicians fool you into thinking you really do have a neverending supply of loose change behind your ears. That done, all I need to do now is slip it casually into my prose, like, oh, I don't know, a magician employing prestidigitation. That was pretty smooth, right? (*runs away in a puff of smoke*)

  • I wonder how much this guy got paid

    Movie News | Ali | 23rd July 2012

Hopefully not very much. (Clip from Batman 'Ehhhh' Forever).

  • Films on TV round-up: dynamic and dicephalic duos

TV Feature | Ed Williamson, Ali Gray | 28th August 2011

I knew this day would come. Despite a long list of films on TV this week, I could only find Stuck On You to write anything about. So I've roped in TheShiznit.co.uk overlord Ali to give us his thoughts on Batman Forever. Imagine, someone who actually knows things about films for a change, rather than just pasting stuff off Wikipedia.

  • I Love You Phillip Morris

    Movie Review | Rob | 18th March 2010

Oscar nominations for gay cowboys and a win for Sean Penn's gay politician; Hollywood loves homosexuals, as long as it's all kept clean. I Love You Phillip Morris gained massive plaudits at Sundance last year but struggled to find a US distributor comfortable with its somewhat graphic content.

  • A Christmas Carol

    Movie Review | Rob | 16th November 2009

A Christmas Carol is one of the most well-known and much-loved stories of all time - a story that's been adapted so many times that it's hard to get particularly excited about a fresh take. So, when it was announced that Robert Zemeckis was going to make yet another version, using the same motion-capture technology he used with The Polar Express and Beowulf, it registered with a tremendous meh. A Christmas Carol without the Muppets just doesn't seem right.

  • New trailer for A Christmas Carol

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 13th September 2009

A Christmas Carol? In September? You couldn't make it up! Etc.

  • Yes Man

    Movie Review | Rob | 4th January 2009

No. It's a wonderful word isn't it? Without it we'd all be doing things we don't really want to do, all of the time, and we'd be knackered 24/7 - life would be like a permanent Glastonbury. However, some people enjoy the word more than others, and get carried away with it to the extent where they sit alone in their apartment wat...
