  • We're basically just a Tom Hiddleston fan site at this point

    Movie Trailer | Ali Gray | 3rd November 2013

First trailer for Jim Jarmusch's rock 'n' roll vampire movie Only Lovers Left Alive, starring T-Swints & Hiddles. Looks better than I, Frankenstein.

  • Your guide to the BBC's Doctor Who 50th anniversary splurge

    TV Feature | Iain Robertson | 27th October 2013

There's nothing the BBC likes more than blowing its own trumpet. Well, apart from giving oversized pay-offs to departing directors and inexplicably commissioning new sitcoms starring Will Mellor obviously. But otherwise, there's little they like more than reminding us that they are, deservedly, a national treasure. That's why they've announced that next month, in honour of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, they'll be broadcasting nothing else whatsoever apart from tributes to the show, culminating with a 75-minute special episode on the show's anniversary, November 23rd.

  • Immortals

    Movie Review | Ali | 10th November 2011

To look at it, you might think Immortals has no idea how ridiculous it is – characters with glistening muscles and mountainous pectorals swing around their hugely phallic swords while wearing gold lamé hotpants, like the most expensive porn parody ever. The problem is, director Tarsem Singh knows exactly how ridiculous it looks, which means not only is it one of the campest movies of the year, but one of the most vain, too. Oddly, though, you can't take your eyes off it – it's like watching the butchest float on the Gay Pride parade crash in super slow-motion HD.

  • Brighton Rock

    Movie Review | Anna | 2nd February 2011

There has to be a very good reason for taking on an adaptation of a beloved book or remaking a classic film - the Coen Brothers doing True Grit makes perfect sense - but I can't fathom the reason for Rowan Joffe reviving Brighton Rock. By any measure it's going to come off badly when compared to Graham Greene's novel or John Boulting's 1947 film. But let's shelve the comparisons for a couple of paragraphs.

  • Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

    Movie Review | Ali | 21st May 2008

16 July, 1999. The queue for the cinema spills out into the car park. Crowds jostle with energy and a sense of adventure. The screen is packed to capacity, a quick glance revealing the audience to be a cross-section of both males and females, young and old. The lights go down to giggles at first and finally, respectfully, an awe...

  • V For Vendetta

    Movie Review | Ali | 24th March 2006

"What we need right now is a clear message to the people of this country. This message must be read in every newspaper, heard on every radio, seen on every television. I want this country to realise that we stand on the edge of oblivion. I want everyone to remember why they need us!" The words here are being spoken, nay, bark...
