Joss Whedon

  • Interview: Joss Whedon

    Movie Feature | Matt | 16th June 2013

It is with no exaggeration when I say that this interview might be the peak of my professional career as a sometime two-bit blogger. It probably even beats that time I wrote a feature making fun of Mark Wahlberg's face.

  • Much Ado About Nothing

    Movie Review | Matt | 12th June 2013

There are two types of Joss Whedon fan: the kind that admires how he managed to give due weight to each character in the Avengers while still littering the film with cool and funny moments, and the kind that yells "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? JOSS IS A GENIUS-GOD WHO SHOULD HAVE HAD HOLLYWOOD EATING OUT THE PALM OF HIS HAND YEARS AGO! ALSO I CAN SING ALL THE LINES TO EVERY SONG IN THE MUSICAL EPISODE OF BUFFY". I fall very much in the latter camp, which basically makes me a horrible person to be around. It also means that I'm the kind of person who will blindly squee his way along to see this film without giving a moment's thought to the fact that, oh yeah, everyone in it is going to be speaking 'Shakespeare'.

  • Women of S.H.I.E.L.D. set feminism back 30 years by standing up

    TV News | Ed Williamson | 14th May 2013

As a terribly exciting new trailer for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. physically hit the internet tonight, heavy was my heart. Their standing poses in this promotional picture indicate that the female characters will conform to the feminine archetypes used in TV action shows since the dawn of time. Did Black Widow burn her bra for nothing? (*pictures Scarlett Johansson's bra, forgets what he was saying*)

  • Spoil The Cabin In The Woods for yourself by winning it on DVD

    Movie Competition | Matt | 24th September 2012

There’s not a lot I can say about The Cabin In The Woods because practically the whole film is one big spoiler. What I can say is that we have five copies on DVD to give away. But obviously only enter this competition if you have already seen it because otherwise you’ll end up watching it and ruining the ending for yourself.

  • Assemble The Avengers for reals with our interactive playset

    Movie Feature | Luke | 25th April 2012

UPDATE: Now featuring Loki and Agent Coulson! PHIL!

We saw The Avengers. We loved The Avengers. So what better way to express our gratitude for Joss Whedon's love letter to geeks everywhere than locking ourselves in a room all Sunday with nothing but a tub of biscuits for company, and working on a geeky little project of our own? Although to be fair, the biscuit thing would've happened anyway.

  • Avengers Assemble

    Movie Review | Matt | 20th April 2012

It's only been four years since Samuel L Jackson teased his way into the end of Tony Stark's movie like a fan-wetting afterthought, but it seems like anticipation for The Avengers has been setting the Internet a-buzz for far longer. Perhaps this is because, since the comic-book genre gained credibility again, we've all been waiting for the ultimate superhero crossover movie. With Avengers Assemble, we get just that - four superhero leads meeting up for one mega-blockbuster movie in a way that has never been seen before. As a result, it is the ultimate summer event movie. It also happens to be Marvel's masterpiece.

  • Interview: Drew Goddard, co-writer & director of The Cabin In The Woods

    Movie Feature | Ali | 9th April 2012

Having seen a top secret screening of The Cabin In The Woods a while back, I've been going out of my mind wanting to talk about it with people, but it's really one of those films where it's better you know as little as possible. Being offered the chance to talk to Drew Goddard - Cabin's co-writer and director - was the perfect opportunity for me to enthuse about the film and gain a further insight into how a movie as awesome as The Cabin In The Woods came to exist. Don't worry, it's spoiler free!

  • Just a new poster for The Cabin In The Woods, nothing to see here

    Movie News | Ali | 29th March 2012

    OR IS THERE? etc.

  • The Cabin In The Woods

    Movie Review | Ali | 10th March 2012

I'm about to write a thousand words on why The Cabin In The Woods is the best movie of the year so far, yet I can't actually tell you anything substantial about it without ruining it. In true Psycho style, to share the film's secret is to rob it of its power. Just take it from me that you're better off knowing as little as possible about The Cabin In The Woods, and even if you think you know what it is, you probably don't. What you see in the trailers is approximately 25% of the film – the tip of the iceberg. The brilliance of The Cabin In The Woods is in exactly what's lurking beneath the surface.

  • The original Avengers assemble!

    Movie Feature | Matt | 8th March 2012

Body paint instead of CGI! Cardboard sets instead of exploding skyscrapers! David Hasselhoff instead of Samuel L Jackson! What would the Avengers look like if Marvel had decided to assemble their hero boyband when they first had the chance?
