  • Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe: Thor (2011)

Movie Feature | Matt Looker, Ali Gray, Becky Suter, Ed Williamson | 3rd September 2018

Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe is back! After last covering Iron Man 2 back in... holy shit, November? It's been nearly a year? Ok, it's about time we brought this back to continue our efforts in discussing each of the MCU films in turn, now finishing before our NEW deadline of Avengers 4. That should be fine. Just fine. Quick, let's talk Thor!

  • Dunkirk

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 18th July 2017

I don't want to write off an entire category of cinema, but... war films. They can be a bit heavy-going, can't they? Yes, there are some amazing standouts in this crowded genre, but it can be really hard to muster up the enthusiasm to watch a movie depicting the experience of war, which is basically: it's truly horrifying when not intensely boring. Luckily, things are different this time round, because a) Christoper Nolan films have never not been great, b) it's mercifully short at under two hours, and c) maybe there'll be a twist and the soldiers of Dunkirk will get rescued by Batman?

  • Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

    Movie Review | Ali Gray | 20th January 2014

Jack Ryan is unique in reboot terms, in that you could hardly call him a franchise: with four actors playing a single role over five movies, it feels more like a Doctor Who-esque regeneration than an attempt to rebuild the character from scratch. Despite his myriad abilities, Jack Ryan is not the most adaptable of fellows: there are few drastic differences between Chris Pine's interpretation of the Tom Clancy hero and Ben Affleck's take in The Sum Of All Fears. When you consider just how much America has changed in the last 12 years, in terms of global perception, geo-politics and national security, Shadow Recruit has to go down as a missed opportunity. Apart from an early nod to the September 11th attacks, it could have been written in 2004, 1994 or even 1984. It feels intentionally bland; homogenised so it can play to any audience at any time. Except Russians, obviously.

  • Hollywood in shock as helicopter crashes into Keira Knightley's left tit

    Movie News | Ali Gray | 28th November 2013

The exploding unnecessary helicopter isn't even my favourite bit of this Jack Ryan poster: it's the tagline.

    America, you're fucked.

  • Okay, which one of you bastards stole Jack Ryan's watch?

    Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 2nd October 2013

Wristwatch sponsor TBC, am I right guys?

  • First pics of Kenneth Branagh in Jack Ryan look just like Kenneth Branagh

    Movie News | Ali | 13th September 2012

An ace photographer has managed to capture some fascinating shots on the set of forthcoming thriller Jack Ryan, which reveal that Kenneth Branagh's villain looks just like Kenneth Branagh normally does.

  • Thor

    Movie Review | Matt | 20th April 2011

The main problem Marvel faces in rounding up its Avengers is this introduction to the Norse God of Thunder. Can Thor exist in Iron Man's more rational world of implausible tech and high-science? Well, the question seems to be: is a near-omnipotent, hammer-wielding space Viking any less believable than a billionaire shooting lasers from his flying robot suit? As it turns out, no. They're both utterly ridiculous. Now sit back, shut up and enjoy.

  • Thor! Thor! THOR!

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 18th February 2011

In which Kenneth Branagh, cunning linguist and Shakespeare mouthpiece, resorts to showcasing topless hunks and telling Facebook jokes. This thucks.

  • Thor trailer hits the web

    Movie Trailer | Chris | 11th December 2010

    It's hammer time.

  • Thor trailer looks thuper therious

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 29th July 2010

The Norse God of Asgard has landed on Earth, to dick about with Natalie Portman. Sounds like an origin story to me!
