  • Lost River

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 8th April 2015

"Hey girl, I made a surreal scary nonsense film because I’m a tortured, sensitive artist. Want to watch it with me? I think you’ll like it. It’s got loads of symbolism about, like, women and sex and monsters and theatre and street lighting. And there’s funny dancing in it. And lots of fake blood. And fire. And lots of bright colours. And a scene where Doctor Who cuts off someone’s lips with a pair of scissors. Want it see it, girl? Hey girl. Hey. HEY. Aww." • Doctor Who's identity crisis

    TV Feature | Iain Robertson | 17th October 2014

The current series of Doctor Who has been one of the most successful in recent years. The episodes have been pretty much universally praised by critics and fans alike, and the reaction to the latest incarnation of the Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, has been unanimously positive. So why aren't I enjoying it as much as everyone else seems to be?

  • Your guide to the BBC's Doctor Who 50th anniversary splurge

    TV Feature | Iain Robertson | 27th October 2013

There's nothing the BBC likes more than blowing its own trumpet. Well, apart from giving oversized pay-offs to departing directors and inexplicably commissioning new sitcoms starring Will Mellor obviously. But otherwise, there's little they like more than reminding us that they are, deservedly, a national treasure. That's why they've announced that next month, in honour of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, they'll be broadcasting nothing else whatsoever apart from tributes to the show, culminating with a 75-minute special episode on the show's anniversary, November 23rd.

  • Doctor Who "not a racist, just a bit set in his ways"

    TV News | Ed Williamson | 29th May 2013

Doctor Who yesterday hit back at accusations that he is a massive racist.

  • Doctor Who carries woman through lots of tin cans on fire

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 2nd August 2012

No, I haven't seen Doctor Who since the first Eccleston one. No, I haven't got a clue what any of it means or who any of the people or creatures are. But could I really call myself a serious TV journalist if I didn't stumble through an analysis of the new trailer to the embarrassment of all concerned?

  • DVD weekly: doctors, vicars and simpletons

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 21st November 2011

"What if God was one of us?" asked Joan Osborne. Well, he'd probably want to know what DVDs were out this week, because it's coming up to Christmas and his son's getting to that age where he's a bit too old for toys and starting to take an interest in more grown-up pursuits, like DVD boxset marathons and judging the wicked. Newsflash for you, big guy: I wouldn't splash out on an Easter egg for him.

  • Doctor Moo: The Whovie

    Movie News | Ali | 14th November 2011

Harry Potter director David Yates is to direct a feature-length Doctor Who movie, which will be released in cinemas and everything, and not just on TV at Christmas. Power up the DeLorean!

  • New Doctor Who trailer – but who IS the Impossible Astronaut?

    TV Video | Matt Looker | 28th July 2011

A new trailer for part 2 of the new series of Doctor Who has been released, and it outwardly mocks those who haven't worked out how it's all going to end. Bastards.

  • Sherlock sticks BAFTA in pipe, smokes it

    TV News | Ed Williamson | 23rd May 2011

One thing I like about the BAFTA TV Awards is how none of them is called 'Best'' anything. What's more British than that? It's like sports day when the kid who turned up with no kit and had to run in his pants still got a prize because everyone's supposed to get treated the same. If that kid were here today and not strung out on glue in a car park stairwell somewhere, he'd tell you the BAFTA TV Awards 2011 winners are all after the jump.

  • Tackling the unanswered questions in Doctor Who
