    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 15th April 2015

"Directed by the stunt coordinator of After Earth, here is a story about an implausibly named man who goes on a revenge rampage after criminals kill his dog. Starring The Lake House's Keanu Reeves." As sells go, this really could have gone either way.

  • Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

    Movie Review | Ali | 12th December 2011

How many straight-up action movies have you seen this year? Remove all the superhero movies, alien invasions and Jason Statham films (which, as we all know, don't play by conventional rules), and there have been precious few pulse-pounders that were rooted in reality. Being grounded is not something typically associated with Tom Cruise – indeed, in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol he comes closer than ever to his Space God, courtesy of the Burj Khalifa – but the return of Ethan Hunt and his IMF team should be welcomed in a year where far-out fantasy and outlandish action has so far reigned.

  • The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest

    Movie Review | Ali | 24th November 2010

Previously, in the Millennium trilogy... Lisbeth Salander aka The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a bit of a social spaz, but she's an uber-hacker capable of dishing out epic haxx0r pwnage, like a one-girl 4chan. Mikael Blomkvist is a suave investigative journalist who busts cases wide open and has lots of sex because he's not at all representative of the book's author. Lots of people bought their adventures because writer Stieg Larsson died before they were released, which makes them better.

  • The Girl Who Played With Fire

    Movie Review | Matt | 2nd September 2010

The Girl is everywhere at the moment. Between posters advertising the DVD release of her excellent Dragon Tattoo and what seems to be 80 % of all public-transport commuters reading about her Hornet's Nest (stop sniggering) - not to mention Fincher's forthcoming US adaptation(s?) - Stieg Larsson's so-called Millennium Trilogy is certainly enjoying unprecedented popularity at the moment. And yet with this, the second film of the series, we have already reached the first stumbling block.

  • The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

    Movie Review | Ali | 12th March 2010

There's a lot to be said for a good old-fashioned murder mystery. If it weren't for the likes of Columbo, Quincy and Diagnosis Murder, daytime TV would be a dead zone. If it weren't for the likes of Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers, your mum's bookshelf would be empty. And if it wasn't for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, you'd have to go all the way back to 2007's Gone Baby Gone for the last decent mystery thriller.
