  • Solo: A Star Wars Story

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 24th May 2018

Four films in four years of this newly rebooted output from a galaxy far, far away, and it’s safe to say that Star Wars fatigue might be setting in for some. While, in that time, there’s been plenty of new reasons to love and embrace and cheer on the franchise, does anyone still get the same goosebump thrill from yet another momentous money-shot moment for the Millennium Falcon? Does anyone still audibly chuckle as loudly as they used to at the mention of an obscure character thrown in the script just because? It’s ok to admit it. We’re all still fans. No one's turning to the Dark Side and there’s no hate or anger here. But is anyone else getting the sense that their enthusiasm for Star Wars is being a little... diluted?

  • Captain America: Civil War

    Movie Review | Ali Gray | 5th May 2016

"So what is Vision?" I'm at the pub, still digesting Captain America: Civil War, and I've been caught off guard. "Well, he's... um...he's a, er... so Thor had this sort of bath, then Ultron, erm... You know the Mind Gem, th-..." Christ, I'm racking my brains and his first movie only came out a year ago. Marvel movies move pretty fast; if you don't re-watch regularly, or God forbid miss a movie, your pub trivia game will suffer. (My best guess: Vision is a space ghost fruit roll-up robot butler dressed by George at Asda). Civil War is the 13th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and if you haven't been paying attention over the last eight years, you're going to find it really, really hard to keep up. The MCU doesn't slow down, doesn't pull its punches and doesn't really do 'Previously, on the Marvel Cinematic Universe..." It has unapologetically and unreservedly been constructed from the ground up for fans - and those fans are going to go bend-over-backwards apeshit crazy for Civil War, arguably the movie that the previous 12 have all been working towards.

  • Should actors be forced to watch their own movies?

    Movie Feature | Matt | 29th October 2012

Hey Mr Actor-person, sir. If you're willing to take a huge vat of money in exchange for two hours' work, at least put the effort in to watch the results afterwards. What's that? No, you can't charge overtime for it.

  • The Tourist

    Movie Review | Matt | 9th December 2010

Depp! And Jolie! Together, onscreen for the first time! How exciting is this going to be? The answer is: not at all. In fact, this film is so uninspiring, that at one point in the film Depp's character is seen reading a spy novel and I caught myself wishing we could be following that story instead. It certainly couldn't have been any worse than this dreary smugfest.

  • Legion

    Movie Review | Matt | 7th March 2010

When angels are portrayed in the movies, they are usually benevolent guides that show desperate businessmen what life would be like if they didn't exist. Not so with Legion: this angel doesn't just have a dirty face, he has guns and mad fisticuff skills to boot. Think this seems like utter nonsense already? Just you wait.

  • Darwin biopic Creation 'too controversial' to find US distributor

    Movie News | Ali | 12th September 2009

Creation, the Charles Darwin biopic starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly, has been unable to find a distributor in America, with analysts claiming the subject of evolution is "too controversial". Allah give me strength!

  • Insane red-band Legion trailer

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 13th August 2009

Pack some fresh pants, everyone - it's the end of the World again. Only this time, it looks like it could be pretty goddamn cool. Angels with machine guns? Oh my!

  • The Da Vinci Code

    Movie Review | Ali | 11th July 2006

Try as I might, I just can't avoid this bloody thing. Tom Hanks leers at me from bus stops, Audrey Tautou pouts at me from magazines and Jean Reno gives me French attitude from tube adverts - even the tap-dancing hobo on the Piccadilly Line is tying in his religious mumbo-jumbo with the impending release of Dan Brown's biblical...
