  • Review: Ralph Breaks The Internet, but is that what kids even want?

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 28th November 2018

Due to what I'm sure were very important reasons, we never got round to reviewing the recent Suspiria remake here, so apologies for that. It is, however, a truly exceptional film that chills to the bone and slowly builds to a darkly disturbing crescendo of menace and gore. Its only major problem is that there is an early scene so horrifying, so deeply, core-shakingly terrifying, that nothing afterwards can match it for sheer horror. It is truly nasty beyond reproach and is hands-down the most repulsive film scene of 2018. I mention this because, against all odds, Ralph Breaks The Internet contains a sequence that comes a close second.

  • The Book Of Henry

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 26th June 2017

If you haven't seen the Book Of Henry trailer, I urge you to watch it now. It shows a whimsical family drama about a genius kid looking after his mum and little brother, making them realise the value of real love until... FUCK Dean Norris is evil! Is he a killer? No time to find out because Naomi Watts is now running around with a sniper rifle! Clearly someone somewhere hasn't worked out how to properly market this film.

Except they have. They really have. This is the exact film of that trailer.

  • Masters of Sex: Season Two DVD

    TV Review | Iain Robertson | 31st May 2015

Yes, you thought this site consisted solely of recaps of Mad Men and Catfish nowadays. Well, surprise. We also review shows that are a little bit like Mad Men.

  • A Million Ways To Die In The West

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 29th May 2014

It's a tired opinion, but Seth MacFarlane really does only appeal to fans of Seth MacFarlane… of which, I imagine the number one fan is Seth MacFarlane. Such is the extent of the lazy self-indulgence at work here, resulting in a film that misfires as many times as its title suggests. A Million Ways To Die In The West? I don’t have enough space here to list every single one, but here are the highlights.

  • Wreck-It Ralph

    Movie Review | Matt | 3rd February 2013

I'm sorry to dispel the idea that this site is run entirely by the kind of geeks who immerse themselves in every form of popular culture available, but I'm not much of a gamer. By all accounts, the other guys are, but I couldn’t tell apart a Far Cry from a Mass Effect, or even a Vita from a DS for that matter. I mention this only as a way of making it clear upfront that I may not be the best person to appreciate Wreck-It Ralph's myriad of 8-bit cameos and gaming references – just in case my right to review a film about a fairly unfamiliar subject matter is ever called into question. Let alone my opinion: it's actually rather good.

  • Take This Waltz

    Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 15th August 2012

Guys: don't marry Michelle Williams. Never happy, that one. She's been married to Ryan Gosling, Heath Ledger (though admittedly he was bumming a guy in a tent behind her back) and now Seth Rogen, and you'd think that'd be enough for most girls, but not her. Wants the moon on a stick, she does.
