The Hunger Games
Movie Review | Matt | 20th March 2012
Now that the pallid adventures of K-Stew, R-Patz and T-Lauts are officially coming to an end, welcome to your new Teen Phenomenon Based On A Series Of Books. There's a female lead, there's a love triangle, there's even CGI wolf dogsā¦are we destined to spend the next few years balking at more inappropriate mum groupies and handmade Hunger Game-themed sex toys? Not so, for this tale is above such cringe-worthy histrionics, delivering surprising substance and maturity, and, as a result, packing more punch.

Films on TV round-up: some notes on film titling conventions
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 4th March 2012
Films have titles, you might have noticed, when turning your head on one side slightly upon being presented with a row of DVDs on a shelf. They have words in them to distinguish them from other films. Here we will examine this concept further. Not much further, admittedly.

Rampart
Movie Review | Matt | 22nd February 2012
Is he though? The most corrupt cop we've ever seen onscreen? Really? Even if you take both Harvey Keitel's and Nic Cage's Bad Lieutenant out of the equation, that's still a bold statement given that, according to a stat I just made up in my head, 70% of ALL THE FILMS EVER MADE features some kind of law-breaking, double-crossing dirty cop. Frankly, this claim - like the film - doesn't stand up well to close scrutiny.

2012
Movie Review | Ali | 12th November 2009
Take a look at this week's release schedule: the distinctions between the choices couldn't be more clear. If I want to go and see a film, I'll go and see Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon. If I want to go and see a movie, I'll go and see Roland Emmerich's 2012.

Zombieland
Movie Review | Chris | 7th October 2009
By now, every good movie nerd knows that it's not easy to strike the perfect balance between humour and horror, and the list of films that do it well is depressingly short. Well, now you can add Zombieland to the list.

Semi-Pro
Movie Review | Ali | 3rd March 2008
The poster tells you all you need to know: Semi-Pro is a Will Ferrell sports comedy. The trailer tells you even less: "I, Jackie Moon, will wrestle a bear," says Ferrell's character, before being savaged and yelling "The only thing I care about is my hair!" This, apparently, is enough to get bums on seats: the tagline might as w...

No Country For Old Men
Movie Review | Ali | 4th January 2008
Midnight. Llewelyn Moss stirs in his bed, gets up and puts his boots on. "I'm fixin' to do something dumber'n hell," he tells his wife Carla (Kelly McDonald) as he heads out of his trailer. A few minutes later, he's fleeing for his life across the pitch black desert plain, pursued by a truck full of shotgun-wielding ba...
