  • Eight questions I had after the Big Little Lies finale

    TV Feature | Becky Suter | 26th April 2017

LittleBigPicture presents its #hottake on the final episode of Big Little Lies, a mere 48 hours after it aired in the UK. After seven weeks of speculation, we finally found out who the murder victim and murderer at Trivia Night were, but many questions were left unanswered, such as ...

(BTW, it goes without saying: there are spoilers ahead.)

  • The Diary of a Teenage Girl

    Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 7th August 2015

Bel Powley is a very arresting and idiosyncratic actor, so expect to see her playing a superhero's girlfriend pretty soon. For now though, here she is in a fairly straightforward yarn about a teenage girl who has a bunch of sex. It has some good visual ideas and does a nice line in chiding you for forgetting the seediness of its main relationship, but none of this quite elevates it above a decent watch.

  • DVD weekly: True Blood - season four

    TV Feature | Matt Looker | 22nd May 2012

Hey, it's that thing about the girl who's in love with a vampire. No, no - the OTHER thing. Nope - not that one either. The OTH - oh, just read the title.

  • True Blood trailer surprisingly light on boning

    TV Video | Ed Williamson | 16th May 2012

Then again, it is only the first of probably two or three, so I guess the others will be crammed full of rimjobs, DPs and Voltaire's Angry Glove.

  • Battleship

    Movie Review | Ali | 11th April 2012

"Well... what did you expect?" I don't give much credence to people who equate 'blockbuster' with 'brainless entertainment'. Just because it has a big budget, is based on a board game, stars dramatically-challenged pop singer Rihanna and is a blatant Transformers stand-in for an Optimus-free summer, doesn't give Battleship the excuse to be average. All of this puts it at an instant disadvantage when it comes to preconceptions, sure, but I for one hoped that director Peter Berg could pull a soggy rabbit out of his hat. After all, how can you make a $200 million alien invasion blockbuster set on water, featuring methods of transport so lumbering and slow, it takes them an hour just to change direction? How indeed. The answer is OH MY GOD LOOK AN EXPLOSION!!!

  • New series of True Blood will feature witches, of course

    TV News | Matt Looker | 27th June 2011

Because, after vampires and werewolves, witches are next on the list of 'supernatural things everyone has heard of'.

  • True Blood: get your teeth into season four (sorry)

    TV News | Ed Williamson | 17th May 2011

"Hello? ... Oh, hi. A couple of hundred words about the new True Blood season four promo clip? Sure, it's just ... no, but I've never actually seen it before ... What? A YouTube vid and a couple of half-arsed vampire puns will do the trick? Well then, BAT's no problem! ... What? ... No, you're right, sorry. There was no need to start straight away."

  • Rape! Now I've got your attention, here's the Straw Dogs trailer

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 14th May 2011

There's still life in the home invasion genre yet, and by 'life', I do of course mean 'death caused by cinematic, gruesome violence'. Yay!

  • Beyond The Pole

    Movie Review | Anna | 22nd March 2010

Documentaries made by self-righteous pricks overtly flaunting a ''message'' are an obvious but deserving target for satirists. You know the ones, second rate Michael Moores with a bee in their smug bonnet, out to change the world. It's the modern equivalent of standing on a high street with a placard saying ''Jesus loves you''. Imagine the sort of film Chris Morris could have made with this subject matter. In the hands of director David Williams however, Beyond The Pole is less sassy satire, more mediocre buddy movie.
