  • Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe: Iron Man 3 (2013)

Movie Feature | Matt Looker, Ali Gray, Becky Suter, Luke Whiston, Ed Williamson | 14th January 2019

It’s the first film of Phase 2, the last film of the Iron Man series, the seventh film of the MCU and now the latest reason for us to email each other again rather than just use WhatsApp or Snapchat or text like any other cool kids with smartphones and stuff. Oh shit, no one texts any more, do they? Gah, why am I so old?

  • The Jungle Book

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 15th April 2016

Will they... will they be singing? The 1967 classic animation is so embedded in the public consciousness that it's difficult to know what to expect from this live-action retelling. What will the life-like animals look like when they talk? Will Mowgli look just like cartoon Mowgli? Will Baloo at any point wear coconut shells and a hula skirt? And what of the songs? Those legendary earworms so infectious that it's going to be hard not to resort to punning references throughout this entire review? Thankfully, Jon Favreau delivers a film that is just as wonderful and captivating as that original classic, and he does so by concentrating on the bare n-... the basics. He concentrates on the basics.

We're not allowed to unleash our Iron Man 3 - sorry, IRON MAN THREE - review until tomorrow, but I don't think anyone at IM PR HQ will pop a sprocket if we reveal that Brian Tyler's end credits music is BER-RILLIANT. Here be proof.

  • The Dictator

    Movie Review | Ali | 11th May 2012

Jokes are funny, aren't they? I don't mean in the 'Ha ha, Jimmy Carr is totes a legend LOL' kind of way; more I find them a strange way to get a laugh – painstakingly constructing sentences and cadences to maximise hilarity. It's a far more traditional, way more precise craft than surrealist, situational or observational comedy, and not one that's overly-familiar to Sacha Baron Cohen, who has thus far mostly traded on the comedy of embarrassment – the exquisite awkwardness that hidden cameras and unsuspecting participants provide. The Dictator represents his return to scripted comedy after the Borat/Bruno double-header, but any fears that Cohen's appeal would effectively be neutered while working with a safety net are swiftly allayed – this showcases his talents on the page as well as on the screen.
