  • Allied

    Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 21st November 2016

Brad Pitt, I have decided, is too handsome. My reaction to more or less anything he does on screen these days is instinctively: "Yeah, but this character wouldn't look like that. No one does." In Allied, which is fine and all that but a bit daft, he marries Marion Cotillard while looking amazing then grows suspicious she is a spy while looking amazing, and I can't shake the feeling that all of this looking amazing is part of a comfort zone out of which he's unprepared to step.

  • Now You See Me 2

    Movie Review | Becky Suter | 4th July 2016

Wanna a see a magic trick? Yeah you do. Everyone loves magic. Think of a number between 1 and 5. Multiply it by 9. Add the two digits of your answer together to get a single digit. Subtract 5 from this number. If A is 1, B is 2 etc, find the letter of the alphabet that corresponds to your number. Pick a country that starts with this letter. Now think of an animal that starts with the second letter of that country. Now imagine what colour that animal usually is. By the end of this review, I shall reveal the animal and the country you were thinking of (*pauses for astonished but also mesmerised silence*). But right now, I can tell you’re thinking, "isn’t this a somewhat laboured and overlong opening paragraph for a 3 star film?" You are, aren’t you? (*waves arms*) THAT’S MAGIC (*dead dove drops from sleeve*)

  • Masters of Sex: Season Two DVD

    TV Review | Iain Robertson | 31st May 2015

Yes, you thought this site consisted solely of recaps of Mad Men and Catfish nowadays. Well, surprise. We also review shows that are a little bit like Mad Men.

  • Masters of Sex: The Complete First Season DVD

    TV Review | Iain Robertson | 1st August 2014

You can imagine the pitch meeting for Masters Of Sex: "It's like Mad Men – but with boobs!" Whilst it's not an entirely inaccurate description – there's lots of attractive people in fabulous period costumes, smoking, slow-burning plots aplenty and, yes, boobs (not to mention a never-ending parade of other body parts, both male and female) – it's very much its own show. For a start, at no point in Mad Men does anyone brandish a dildo called Ulysses, although Don could probably do one hell of an ad campaign for it.

  • Masters of Sex opening credits: a journey into innuendo

    TV Feature | Iain Robertson | 12th December 2013

What exactly is Masters of Sex about? I attempted to work it out from the opening credits.

  • How to get a TV poster quote in two easy steps

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 6th November 2013

One: say it's 'something meets something else', which always goes down well.

Two: realise you need to be a much more successful website than you actually are in order to achieve this, so just Photoshop the quote in yourself and hope no one asks any probing questions.

  • Bachelorette

    Movie Review | Ali | 16th August 2013

Imagine The Hangover crossed with Bridesmaids, then take away everything that made those individual movies great, then throw in a couple of extra assholes to fill the void. That's Bachelorette: a deeply cynical movie without a single sympathetic character that wastes almost every ounce of talent involved on a threadbare plot and a script with a thick streak of nasty humour running through it.
