  • The End of the Affray: How The Football Factory's ending is just incorrect

    Movie Feature | Ed Williamson | 7th October 2015

I rewatched The Football Factory on Film4 last night. I don't harbour any real dislike for it as many do; elements of it are misunderstood and better realised than it gets credit for. I want to talk about its ending, though. You cannot end a film like The Football Factory does. I don't mean it ends badly. I mean it ends wrongly.

  • The Sweeney

    Movie Review | Rob | 11th September 2012

"We're The Sweeney, shithead. You're nicked!" grunts Ray Winstone after a rather brutal pre-title sequence. With that, Nick Love goes all Batman Begins with his gritty, swear-filled, unapologetic vision of The Sweeney - a far cry from the dodgy trousers, funny haircuts and, I imagine, casual racism and flagrant sexism of the John Thaw and Dennis Waterman days. The '70s, huh? Good times.

  • Danny Dyer and Nick Love are angry

    Movie News | Ali | 16th September 2009

Did you like the movie Outlaw? No, of course you didn't, it was terrible. Director Nick Love and Danny Dyer would like a word with you. And that word is 'cunt'.

  • The Firm

    Movie Review | Matt | 14th September 2009

"We come in peace, we leave you in pieces," says Gary Oldman's Bex in the 1988 original version of The Firm, and you believed it. Oldman played the vicious character in this made-for-TV movie with such the right degree of humour and venom that it still remains one of his best performances.

He owns the role throughout and, as dated as the film now appears, Oldman is still captivating. So here's the question: how do you remake a Gary Oldman movie without Gary Oldman?
