  • The BFG

    Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 26th July 2016

As a child of the eighties you notice as you get older that a lot of contemporary mainstream entertainment seems designed to take you back there. Now there's a distinctive crossover demographic: those of us in our thirties who went nuts for Spielberg and Star Wars at the time, and now have our own children whom we want to show the originals and take to see reboots. For my generation the prospect of Spielberg doing The BFG is an intersection in a Venn diagram where we hold each circle very dear, and there's only so bad it could possibly turn out. But it should've been better.

Disney and LucasFilm have announced that a fifth Indiana Jones movie starring Harrison Ford and directed by Steven Spielberg will be released in July 2019. Prepare yourself for three years of waiting with these five harsh and inescapable truths.

  • Auditions for Under The Dome: just look up

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 20th August 2013

"Yes, that's good. Now can you say, 'What the fuck is that, some sort of fucking dome?' ... Yes, but more incredulous ... Fine, fine, we'll call you."

  • Spielberg and Day-Lewis' latest "even funnier than Lincoln"

    Movie Feature | Neil | 28th April 2013

My knowledge of American politics is as thorough as my knowledge of 12th century porridge mining, but on this evidence I'd totally vote for Daniel Day-Lewis.

  • Lincoln

    Movie Review | Ali | 20th January 2013

It shouldn't be this hard. It shouldn't be a chore to watch a film critics have described as "phenomenal", "indelible" and "masterly". The Lincoln awards screener disc - 'For Your Consideration in all categories', in case you hadn't guessed – has been sitting on a pile of DVDs this big for about a week now, and I've been avoiding it for just as long. The other day, I literally chose to watch Lockout* over Lincoln. That's the extent of my disinterest. However, circumstances conspired to make it today's sole viewing option – one snow-storm and one Netflix outage later, and Steven Spielberg's latest made its way onto the TV by default. Clearly the members of the Academy didn't share my apathy.

  • I guess I should say something about Jurassic Park 4

    Movie News | Ali | 14th January 2013

I'm sure by now you've already heard the news, but as the internet's second most enthusiastic Jurassic Park fan (go extinct already, Gary) I feel I should clarify my official statement regarding the announcement of a June 2014 release date for Jurassic Park 4. My statement is as follows: (*faints theatrically*)

  • Raiders Of The Lost Ark: the IMAX difference

    Movie Feature | Ali | 29th September 2012

Earlier this week I went to the IMAX to see Raiders Of The Lost Ark, officially one of the best films ever made on the biggest screen in the UK. Did you know it's really good? Because it is. What's more, the MAMMOTH screen makes even the most innocuous elements of the film seem gigantic. Let me try and visualise what I mean.

  • All of these new Lincoln stills look like someone has just farted

    Movie News | Luke | 25th September 2012

This new batch of images for Steven Spielberg's upcoming biopic Lincoln gives us the chance to be incredibly puerile. We jump at that chance. With gusto.

  • Trailer breakdown: no blinkin', it's Spielberg's Lincoln

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 16th September 2012

The trailer for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln has finally dropped, so join us as we dissect every frame in detail, searching desperately for jokes to make about vampires and hats.

  • This is honestly what Movies.com thinks the Lincoln poster is saying

    Movie News | Ali | 23rd August 2012

The first poster for Steven Spielberg's inevitably weighty Honest Abe biopic Lincoln has surfaced, and it already has a lot of American websites saluting a sunset and wiping away their tears with golden eagle feathers.
