  • Logan

    Movie Review | Ali Gray | 9th March 2017

There only three things that are certain in life: death, taxes and the fact that someone is hard at work writing a sequel to the X-Men movie you're currently watching. Logan, the third Wolverine standalone movie after X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine, is the exception: it is the last in its series, because Hugh Jackman says so, and not just because they've run out of ways to name Wolverine movies. Buoyed by the success of 15-rated Deadpool and supported by Jackman's desire to leave a lasting legacy for his defining role, Logan is that rare superhero movie that feels like a full stop rather than a comma. Intentionally distanced from the rest of the X-Men universe and its frankly Gordian timelines, Logan stands alone as the best of the series: a bleak, bold and mold-breaking masterpiece of the genre.

  • 2013: The year in stuff that looked like dicks

    Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 18th December 2013

2013 was the most phallic movie year in modern memory - penile imagery was thrust at us from every direction and in every dimension. I'd be happy to go on record as saying this year has featured the most movies featuring stuff that looked like dicks ever. Prove me wrong: I guarantee you have far too much dignity to even try.

  • The Wolverine

    Movie Review | Matt | 18th July 2013

Considering that Wolverine is one of the most-loved comic-book characters, his cinematic adventures really have been borne out of a mixed gene pool. The 'edgy loner' was ingeniously made the centre of the X-Men franchise under Bryan Singer's direction, but by the time we got to his origin story, he had mutated into a caricature of superficial rage and testosterone (not to mention someone forgot to tell director Gavin Hood how to make his claws look realistic). It seems, for all the fan support for Wolverine, his stories are only as good as the person telling them. So how does newcomer-to-the-franchise James Mangold fare?

  • All I can think of every time I watch a trailer for The Wolverine

    Movie Feature | Ali | 28th May 2013

Twist: the shaky old woman from the popular 'Dermatologists Hate Her!' online ad is actually a super-mutant snake-woman.

  • This story is not true

    Movie News | Ali | 22nd April 2013

A story being circulated today claims that Fox are having to replace "over 50%" of their bus shelter posters for The Wolverine, due to theft. That'd be interesting, except it's 100% not true.

  • Shock: Movie posters used to be much nicer to look at

    Movie Feature | Ali | 31st March 2013

I spend approximately eight hours per day staring at film posters, and the other sixteen thinking about the various ways I hate them. It's always nice, then, when I'm given an excuse to figuratively go back in time and look at the film posters of yesteryear, specifically the one-sheet for Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, which is 50 years old this week.

  • Wolverine to fight world's crappiest ninjas in his new movie

    Movie Feature | Ali | 27th March 2013

Maybe stick to the shadows when it's snowing, you guys. First Wolverine trailers after the jump.

  • Boy, The Wolverine sure sounds fun

    Movie News | Ali | 9th January 2013

"An old friendship puts the story in motion. What brings [Wolverine] there is an old ally in Japan. We find Logan in a moment of tremendous disillusionment. We find him estranged. One of the models I used working on the film was The Outlaw Josey Wales. You find Logan and his love is gone, his mentors are gone, many of his friends are gone, his own sense of purpose – what am I doing, why do I bother – and his exhaustion is high. He has lived a long time, and he's tired. He's tired of the pain." - Director James Mangold

    Oh. Goody. (Interview via EW).

  • Um, careful with your adamantium claws there, Wolfie...

  • Five things I bet you missed in the first picture from The Wolverine

    Movie Feature | Ali | 26th September 2012

We've all seen the first picture from The Wolverine, showing a shirtless Hugh Jackman - or should that be Huge Jacked Man? - flexing the shit out of his muscles. But did you notice these five details? I bet you didn't, because I just made them up.
